I joined up in August (just to have access to some stuff...) so thought I should introduce myself. I purchased my Carver stuff in the early 90s. Equipment I own:

TX-2 tuner

CT-Seven preamp

TFM-22 amp

I recently put the amp back into my chain after playing with a variety of other amps. It's sounding pretty good, though I'm thinking of doing a caps replacement kit on it. I see a number of TFM-24s for sale in my area and I'm thinking I may want to get one of those, also. One actually was serviced in 2022 with caps replacement. I was wondering something today, so I'll put it here, but I should probably post in another forum. Does anyone know if the TFM series amps are all tonally matched, or close? I'm wondering in case I decided to try bi-amping at some point. So a TFM-15 would have plenty of power for upper frequencies, but would it play well with a TFM-22 on the bottom end? Is input impedance similar, etc.? I can look that up, but does anyone have experience?

Thanks,

Geoff (in Vancouver, WA)

Hi Geoff and welcome aboard.

I wish I could comment about the TFM amps, but I've never owned or even heard one in use. Many here have though, and hopefully someone with experience with these amps can chime in.

Once you get to Novice status, please consider posting some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio and home theater gear.

@gsvarney Welcome to the Carver site!!

I don't think that "all" the TFM series amps are "tonally matched" or "close". The 22/25, and 24 look to be closely matched but not when comparing them to either the 35 or 15.

Even the 35 and 15 have enough difference that, for me, would sway me away from using a mix of a 35 and a 15, or even entertaining mixing in one of the 20 series with my 35 or 15 if I was bi-amping. Once again that's me and also allows me to buy more amps to match things up. I guess this is a good thing?

My tendency is to use all the same amps if I was going to do either a vertical or horizontal bi-amp configuration. That's me.

In my system I run two TFM 35s in a Horizontal bi-amp configuration. I have other TFM amps (15s) but they are used in mono mode for the other speakers in my home theater setup.

Once again Welcome and enjoy the Carver journey and experience!!
