New to the site

I have an mxr 130.  I've owned it since 1985 when I purchased it new.  I was just 23 years old and this was my first big purchase out of college and working my first real job.  Anyway, I blew it up in 1988 and I replaced the c2527 transistors (as far as I can remember) myself.  I quickly blew those transistors again, so I took it to a shop to have them fix it.  Which they did, and it blew up again.  So I took it back and they fixed it again.  It lasted 2+ decades after that and now has blown up again.  I'm assuming the same thing has happened again as the fuse blows everytime I turn it on.  Which is what happened all the previous times it blew up.  Anyway, I'm finally getting back to fixing it again.  I found this site and figured it would be a good resource for me once I start digging in to fix it.

Welcome @TKM! Nice backstory on your MXR 130. There's plenty of info here on all the Carver receivers. Service & Owners manuals are in the 'Manuals and Specsheets' link at the top of any page. And the search function will get you some good threads on the MXR 130.

I would say that given the number of failures you've had with the unit, I'd suspect that there's something else going on other than really loud music . It could very well be one of those situations where a contributing cause of failure isn't being identified and corrected, and this is leading to subsequent failures. At this point are you looking for a good repair source or are you planning to work on it yourself again?

Well, I have the equipment, and I'd like to think the knowhow, to fix it myself (I was an electrical engineer that went the embedded software development route in the 90's).  I just need to sit down and dig in so I can figure out what has blown up as well as what other upgrades/fixes I can perform to get her back up and running again.  I still have all of my original gear (Tascam studio CD player, Denon turntable and Advent L880 speakers) that I purchased to go along with the Carver amp/receiver.  And would love to get the everything back up and working in my new basement.  However, with that said, my current home project load could persuade me to have someone else fix it for me.
