Okay this isn't vinyl but there is no sub forum for tape so here's what I got.:

A music industry type living in North Hollywood was relocating to Nashville and was giving away lots-o-stuff he had collected over the years. Besides a sweet little vertical window air conditioner unit, he gave me an unbelievable collection of 200 Grateful Dead tapes in two wooden display boxes. I'm not sure how I could ever confirm or verify it, but these tapes were supposedly recorded off the main mixing board of many, many live concerts stretching from July, 1966 to August, 1991. The tape box labels are all hand written with the concert venue and date. Many are very artfully decorated and colorful.

This seems to me to be a rare and possibly valuable collection. I have been listening to some of the tapes while I drive since I packed up my home decks many years ago. Because of their potential value and summer coming on, I don't really want to have them baking in my truck or car (yup, still standard audio gear in both) while I run errands. So I guess it's time to unpack the old 3-head deck and see how well it stored. Alternately, I was thinking about browsing epray for a nice deck with a remote so I can skip and rewind without leaving my sweet spot. Any suggestions on a reliable deck with good audio performance?  I might not mind having a Carver if they are any good. Anyone have experience with Carver decks? Does anyone know who made them for Carver as I doubt his company built them?20120614114529563.jpg

What a great karma!  Hope you have a lot of fun with this.

Don't know about the Carvers, but x2 on the Nakamichis (your second post came while I was typing).  There is a repair place/used eqpt dealer here that has a huge amount of stuff (almost an audio junkyard, some a little ugly but all in working condition) that has several, and I was tempted to buy one, but it's hard to justify with everything going digital.  If you're going to copy the tapes, you might consider burning them to CD.

Now that I'm thinking about it, this might be a good time for an Audio Archaelogical Expedition....

That place sounds interesting to me. Do you know if they have a web site or any of their stuff online anywhere? I always enjoy a nice junkyard find.

Thanks Snow! If the deck you mentioned has a remote I may be interested. It will be pretty much just a playback deck I will be getting to peruse the collection and I want the remote function to make that an easy chair experience. I have a nice high-end JVC 3-head deck for recording (if I ever want to do that on cassette again), but alas it has no remote. If your Nak is not a remote control deck it still might be worth busting out anyway just to see if you can get anything for it on epray.

No it doesnt come with a remote, you could make one with an 8-10 foot stick though happy0009.gif As far as Ebay goes most likely not worth the effort to drag it out. I did have a Dragon a while back that was a nice deck though.

Looks like a treasure trove of great music.  A great find.  Congrats.

Wish I could help, but I have not used cassettes in a very long time.

I don't know how they sell the used stuff.  The website doesn't mention it and doesn't do justice to what they are.  Yes, they do repair, they do good work and have a great reputation.  The other side of the coin is they are in an older building that is overflowing with old stuff, and you can just go in and stumble around (there's so much gear it's hard to walk), look, listen to whatever is hooked up.  Last time they had a pair of Duetta Sigs.  It really reminds me of a junkyard, except AFAIK it all works.  I don't know how they sell it if you don't know about it and go in there.  The owner, Zaw, brokered a private sale in which I bought my MG-IIIas.  Good folks, cool place.

Very nice looking survivor.
Looks like it was just taken out of the box new.
If I was looking for a cassette player I'd be all over this one.
Pristine condition, orignal remote & manual and box.
