Gene C 1,748 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 It didn't take long on this ebay listing to buy a rare new set of Infinity 12" drivers (ordered 4). These are the #902-3054A woofers which most of the time I see the same part # without the A being listed on ebay. These are the correct drivers for my Kappa's and I can't tell you all how stoked I am on stumbling across them. Seller is going to install dust caps for me as well.
Daddyjt 9,648 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Nice score, Gene! Are they back-ups, or is there a home-build project on the horizon:-)
oldtexasdog 2,461 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Good to see a nice score on E for a change.!
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Nice score, Gene! Are they back-ups, or is there a home-build project on the horizon:-) Those drivers are going in the 9's as soon as they get here. The old ones are getting boxed up to go in the attic.
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Turns out the seller Steve Lee used to install the servos for Infinity for 15 years. He wanted me to call him today because he had some concerns on the foam surrounds for the speakers. Seeing since they are 20 + years old he says they are in great shape but he doesn't feel comfortable selling those to me and said he wanted to refund my $ until he was done refoaming them. I told him no, just refoam them with new dust caps and we are good. He said it would take him a week hes got other projects going on at the time and was real appreciative that i was understanding. Heres his site in case anyones interested http://www.proaudiovideoplus.com/
zumbini 6,150 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Sounds like he's exactly the type of person you want working on your gear.
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Sounds like he's exactly the type of person you want working on your gear. Yes sir, apparently he also used to supply the woofers to Infinity from California besides the control woofers. Was a real nice older gentleman to talk to, good to have reliable contacts with old equipment.
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 So I got a call 20 mins ago letting me know the 4 12" drivers are on the way with original Infinity dustcaps installed with new foam. Should be here Fri, will post pictures.
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Nicccce...:-) that was a GREAT score! Tell me about it. I know Michael Marks would have stuck me $500 a woofer seeing since he's selling one servo control woofer for $900.00.
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 The new drivers showed up today. They are super mint with the proper dust caps. Prepped this morning before the drivers showed up. These are the mismatch set I had in there before. The non ported ones were the original, the ported ones were from the Beta, IRS series. New ones installed. all 4 drivers each measured 3.5 ohms, right on the money.
Daddyjt 9,648 Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Very nice, Gene -- I'm thinking custom sub home build with the 4 old drivers...
Gene C 1,748 Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 Very nice, Gene -- I'm thinking custom sub home build with the 4 old drivers... I have 10 total drivers in the attic some in better shape than others all re foamed. I'm thinking I should probably instant Karma some of them for a DIYer project. What do you think?

Odysseous 11 Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Hi Gene, I was wondering why you wanted to replace those woofers, now I know you had unmatched sets and getting an opportunity to get NOS original infinity woofers for our beloved Kappa 9s is awesome! I wish we could find a score like that for the polydome Midrange... mine are still good, transparent and flexible, but I always wonder how long that will last.

As cool as that would be, I think that you should hang on to all those drivers - They are getting VERY hard to come by.... Gotta keep back-ups for speakers of that vintage!

If you ever score a pair of polydome's from the .1 Kappa series that's in stellar condition, you can swap the diphragm assembly from the new one and put it in the old one "same part #". I did that a few months back, pretty easy to do.
Odysseous 11 Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Hi Gene, That's exactly what mine have, a NOS (as of a few years ago) .1 polydome. =) the previous owner got the polydomes new right before Infinity stopped making them and replaced the originals. The originals say "polydome k", the .1 say "kappa" on the first line and "polydome" in the second line (just for information for people who want to know which is which)

Did you just replace the dome with the old magnet housing and face plate? Or did you just put the .1 driver in the cabinet?
Odysseous 11 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I didn't do it, the last owner did. And he replaced the entire thing, that's why it says "kappa Polydome" instead of "Polydome k". I thought it was the exact same part number... isn't it? Do you know what the difference is?
