Based on the schematic, 12AX7s V4 and V5 are the MM phono preamp stage and must be high gain, low noise/low microphonic examples. I found this out after substituting 5751s (ruggedized military equivalent to 12AX7, except having a lower gain) and they didn't work. 6922 (6DJ8) V6 is the subsonic filter. V1, V2, and V3 are the MC phono preamp stage. I recently replaced all the tubes in my unit (both main and phono) after replacing all the electrolytic capacitors and phono feedthrough capacitors. Sounds great!

Finally, when they were both on faculty at the University for Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria, Rotondi decided to make it happen. He booked a studio in Vienna, enlisted the services of esteemed Austrian bassist Danny Ziemann (his studio) and drummer Mario Gonzi, and on June 23, 2024, the quartet recorded Out of the Past. Barely two weeks later Rotondi was dead, the victim of a heart attack less than two months before his 62nd birthday. As the album had been on a back burner, so to speak, for more than three decades, it was released posthumously as a final tribute to Rotondi's remarkable talents."
