In my opinion I can’t say it any better than Ar9Jim put it. There are various factors already mentioned. A bad mastering is bad. I remember to avoid the Police “Greatest Hits” DVD-A because everyone said how awful it sounded. Which is no reflection on their catalog overall. No one really knows what someone else perceives is good. Obviously great things offer a great listening experience. But to truly say something as subjective as our listening is very personal opinion. I certainly will not say that I have “Golden Ears” but I know what makes me enjoy listening to music. That is something I can live with. Especially considering I don’t have a “Golden Wallet” to venture down a more costly path than others and am pretty happy.

I think the number 17 is mine. I’m using a crystal ball to make it happen. My magic 8-ball says odds are good. Of course they said the same about last week’s lottery drawing, those tickets did not win anything.

Unfortunately my experience with the dealers back in the 1980’s was not that great when it came time to audition Carver equipment except one. Looking back not only a shame but a real crime against what Bob was putting out. I am happy to get a second chance at listening pleasure that I can enjoy now. I still have a inclination to maybe try some other Carver equipment out and see if it would represent an upgrade. But I need not rush the issue. Though I have to admit I do have an itch to do so.

Ar9Jim you are so right. I remember back in the 1980’s trying to listen, let alone purchase Carver equipment and having different location salespeople trying to steer you away. One great exception was a place where I was about to purchase the ALS after a fantastic time of problem free audition. I found that too many dealers were pushing other brands while giving Carver the cold shoulder. Sadly Bob has never even been close to a level playing field. Many people have missed out because of this. I am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy Bob Carver’s work and of course all those that have helped me get to this point. I suppose now I can be a prophet for the next generation of listeners. 😁

I trust people like the old pro’s here far more than too many tainted reviews or sales people that you don’t know. The people here truly care about Carver and the people that visit thecarversite. That’s just my two cents with my experience here.

Funny I went through an experience that is relatable. I was going to get the ALS back in 1989. Just then my life was thrown in personal matters and walked away from everything. Even music and audio for twenty years. I will say it was very soulful to get back into audio and music. Funny how life sometimes brings you back to where you started. Now about finding a couple of ALS’s would answer my last audio regret. Or at least put them up against what I have now. Then the last regret could be answered. That will happen in its due course. Until then I am satisfied.

It always amazes me how many people will take the word of an Audiophile Critic rather than simply listening and decide if your ears hear are really pleasing you.

Welcome, you came to a great place for Carver gear. Definitely replace those old caps and good luck with your Carver gear.

It would be special if several of Bob’s processing ideas were in one box. That would make a statement about Bob being correct for decades of his processing inventions.

You definitely can’t have any faith with the industry press. I remember how Stereophile after the Carver Challenge crucified the Silver 7t’s and Amazing Platinum’s after the challenge by their more than questionable reviews. Obviously they had an axe to grind after being embarrassed. I would trust opinions especially regarding Carver gear here than most “audiophiles” in the general population.
