  1. Their Kickstarter project had a goal of $800,000 and in three days is over $2,500,000. Although it seems that Kickstarter is more a way to market/promote some projects these days than actually fund them. I've said on another forum that this is starting off with decent momentum, but if/when that momentum is gone, I doubt all these musicians will continue to back a faltering product. $400 for the unit and $15-$25 for each album...I think that's going to be a tough one for a lot of folks. Plus, re-buying all that music...
  2. I'm a lucky guy as the wife bought me a Nitty Gritty for my birthday a couple years ago. IMO...$ spent vs. positive SQ results...best piece of gear I own. I cringe now thinking about playing a used lp without running it through the Gritty first.
  3. I need to get me a good solid pressing of Hot Rats.
  4. I'm a big Pearl Jam fan, and they have a song called "Spin The Black Circle," and seem to always support vinyl, but most of the vinyl I have from them is super compressed. Even their cd's seem dull and compressed sounding. Their best sounding recordings are their live albums. Fortunately, they release soundboard bootlegs (cd's) of almost every show, and those sound phenomenal...almost the only way I listen to them now (unless I'm at a show )

    Cleaning Vinyl

I'll jump on this thread late, but here is my process... Take vinyl out and place it on three microfiber cloths. Drop five drops of Audio Technica record care solution on one half of the album...skip the label and drop five on the other half. Take the Audio Technica brush pad and wipe completely around the album twice. Apply light to moderate pressure and slowly "scrub" back and forth once completely around. Take microfiber cloth and wipe side dry. Repeat on other side. Then I take the solution that came with my nitty gritty and apply the same amount of solution. Gently wipe the solution twice around to wet the whole album. Place the album on the nitty gritty and wet the other side as I slowly rotate the album while side one is being vacuumed. Flip album over and dry side two with the nitty gritty. Place clean album in a new inner sleeve and slide back into the cover next to the original sleeve.(new sleeve slides into the cover facing up) Put new clear plastic outer sleeve on the cover.(new sleeve goes on facing up so the opening of the jacket, cover and sleeve are all different and protected) Before I play each side... I use an audioquest anti static brush on each side. I use my new onzow zerodust sylus cleaner before each side as well. It seems overly labor intensive, but I've got the system down so its really not. It's also a great feeling knowing that everything is as perfect as I can possibly get it before the needle drops.
  6. I don't remember the first music purchase I made, but the first album I bought was about 5 years ago...Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Still my favorite album to listen to on vinyl.
  7. Blues, I like that style. Easier to flip through them that way.
  8. Thanks guys. The Expidit works well and is solid, but I've seen some horrible pics online (google Expidit Album) showing what can happen when these things get overloaded. So as a precaution, I put "L" brackets on the shelves for additional support and then added a 1/4" mdf board to the back. My wife came up with the genius idea of painting the mdf board to match the wall so it still looks like it is a see-through cube. The pic in post #18 has the board in place and painted to match the wall, and I'm very happy with how it turned out.
  9. I've got about 300 albums. Currently have a nice system where I run them through the nitty gritty and then put them in a mofi inner and a new outer and then put them on the playable shelf. About half of them are clean so far. Would get through the rest of them sooner if I didn't keep buying new ones!!! I use a modified/supported Expidit shelf from Ikea. Works well!! BTW...All 8 upper shelves are now filled and I have more in the cleaning queue in another room
  10. Thanks for posting those pics, Dan. I don't have any pics of the other setups in the new house, so when I get some, I'll post them.
  11. Good eye, that's exactly what it is. I'd probably call myself more of a noise-maker than a guitarist, but I enjoy it. The electric is a strat and the acoustic is a Taylor 110. I have an old Ovation Applause acoustic that I learned on and is still my favorite guitar. The other smaller amp is a G-Dec, not real loud, but is has a bunch of drum and bass loops so it's fun to play with when there's no one to jam with.
  12. Just wanted to say hi. I've almost joined the site a couple times and finally did today. I've been reading up more and more lately on Carver gear. I currently don't own any, but am hoping to when the right one comes along. Currently, I have a 2-ch system in the living room, a HT downstairs, and a dedicated 2-ch room that is always a work in progress. Looking forward to learning more and checking out the site.
