Some sunfire amplifiers are equipped with a switch on the BOTTOM of the amp, directly under the meter. I switches between extremely dim and ridiculously dim. It's hard to get to and you may need a screw driver to move it. Your amp may not have this switch. You are lucky the lamp still comes on. Most of them have burned out by now.

I sent an email to Sunfire back when they were answering email. Here's the reset procedure for the TGx-401. Let us know if this clears up your problem. Factory reset - TGx-401 Setup>Enter Control>Enter Setting Save>Enter Reset Factory>Enter RFAC (Enter after each one). Dial up on left hand knob. Since the Sunfire TGx-401 passwords are not published anywhere… Turn knob to put in each letter: Save Dealer – SDLR Recall Dealer – RDLR Recall Factory - RFAC

carver c1 preamp infrasonic filter
wrf replied to robertcdt's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
The infrasonic filter is designed to be used when playing vinyl. Some, if not all turntables will generate an extremely low frequency rumble. The infrasonic filter will removed that rumble. If your infrasonic filter is generating distortion, there is something wrong. It could be a dirty switch or something else. All C-1s are getting old. Switches and POTs get dirty over time. Electrolytic capacitors degrade. You should consider a refresh where all electrolytic caps get replaced and everything gets cleaned. If the problems with the infrasonic filter persist, a good tech can diagnose them following the refresh. Until then, just leave the filter OFF. It's really only useful with turntables that have large amounts of rumble. -

C1 Preamp mod - BillD or HiTech Audio version
wrf replied to MikeC's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Neilon does do BillD upgrades and likely for considerably less than $1K. You can contact them at https://nelionaudio.com or send greg a message directly using this site messaging capability using his screen name here @Nahash5150. Here is a full description of the options and prices for the C-1 Peamp. https://nelionaudio.com/index.php?/services.html/carver/carverpreamps/carver-c-1c-11-restore-and-bill-d-upgrades-r5/ -
C1 Preamp mod - BillD or HiTech Audio version
wrf replied to MikeC's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Hard to say how it would compare. The BillD mods are well published. Roland seldom shares the details of his upgrades. -
If you have some headphones, plug them in and see if you get any output from them. It would also be a good idea to carefully look at all the switches again. Sometimes they can bind against the faceplate, look like they are more or less in the out position actually be depressed enough to cause trouble. Oh.. and get a new tech. One that will take responsibility for their work.

Good grief. Absolutely stunning achievement. Congratulations.

Welcome to the site. We have a ton of information on the TFM-15. You can start with checking out the owners manual and service manual. You can find these at the top of the page under Manuals and Specsheets. That will take you a page that by default shows you the Carver manuals. Scroll down the page (way down) and you'll find the TMF-15 docs. You can also access Phase Linear, Sunfire, Lightstar and Bob Carver Corp docs using the tabs at the bottom of the page. You can find even more info if you scroll down the home page (again, way down) to find a forum dedicated to amplifiers. Within that forum you will find two subforms. One called Carver and one called amp repair. Both have dedicated sections for the TFM-15. You will also find a forum dedicated to preamps. Look under the mods and you will find info on the BillD modifications. And don't forget the search functions. Upper right side of the home page. You can often find just what you need if you are good a formulating search terms. Good luck and feel free to post questions in the relevant forums.

@Chris Trimble - Welcome to the site. Very bad idea to put your phone number in a post. I've edited it out to protect your privacy. Folks can reply to your post for repair recommendations..

Welcome to the site. I'm not familiar with the Genesis G200 or its relationship to Carver ribbons. But, Ed Atkins is the guy that repairs Carver ribbon drivers. He's a member here. User name is @sea.

New to Site with MXR-2000 issue
wrf replied to markdd's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Wow. If you have got +/- 99volts where +/- 69 volts are supposed to be, do NOT turn it on again. Other rail voltages in the amp will be high. The probability of venting one of the big power supply caps is very high. The Tirac is behaving as if it is shorted. You said you replaced it. Double check that it's wired correctly. Troubleshooting will required a Variac. With a Variac, you can vary the AC line voltage down to something that yields WAY lower than +/- 99 volts. From there you may be able to diagnose the problem. If you don't have a Variac consider sending it to a professional. Further testing with voltages that high will not end well. -
if the relays are not engaging, your amp is likely in protection. Something has gone wrong. Suggest you start with downloading the service manual. Check the output transistors for shorts. Also check for DC offset at the outputs (up stream from the relays). This may help narrow down why its going into protection.

The Death of Dynavox? - Amazing Speakers Woofer Replacements
wrf replied to wrf's topic in Loudspeaker repair
Good to know the product exists. But as on the old Dynavox page, they are out of stock. Urban legend has it that Dynavox was having these drivers produced by the same Chinese manufacturer used by Carver. They would order a batch, sell out and then order another. Hence the erratic supply. I haven't seen them in stock for several years. -

I refoamed 6 woofers about a year ago. Cone material was fine. I bought the surrounds from Simply Speakers. Beware. Some surrounds fit poorly and turn refoaming into a nightmare. -

Having a problem with Carver M-200t transformer thump
wrf replied to Cavscout's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about your amplifier having problems. Most carver amplifiers that "cut out" are going into protection for some reason. Very unlikely that the transformer has anything to do with the problem. In fact, the M-200 is what carver calls a Mag Coil power supply. It is NOT a standard transformer. Your amp needs a complete checkup to determine IF and WHY is is going into protection. Check the manuals here on the site. There is an excellent service manual for the M-200. It contains a great theory of operation section and a detailed check out procedure. Good Luck. Let us know how it goes. One you narrow down the problems we may be able to assist you. -
Selling that equipment is no small task. Testing, cleaning, packing and shipping will take time. Packing in particular can be challenging. UPS and Fedex will pack things, but they are expensive and often do a poor job. Feel free to post anything you have. Offering it for local pickup will help. I know Barry had a lot of nice stuff.

Welcome to the site. Look around, ask questions. There it a lot of info here.

Welcome to the site. Check out the manuals. We got a service manual for the 6200.

Welcome to the site. Like @3M_Audio said, a LOT of info is available here on the site under "Manuals and Specsheets". Check with Greg at nelionaudio.com. He owns this site and can also be reached via PM at @Nahash5150. I know he had quite a few several years ago.

@Evancox Welcome to The Carver Site. We've got lots of info on the M-400. Check out the service manual and it will provide a great overview of how the amp works along with trouble shooting tips. In case you haven't found it yet, the manuals are along the top of the page under "Manuals and Specsheets". The M-400 is one of the oldest Carver amps. Give us an overview of your background and what kind of test equipment you have. The M-400 is a bit of a jigsaw puzzle and not a great way to start your education, but it's been done. Give us a quick description of its condition and you will likely get tons of help.
