oldtexasdog 2,458 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I am thinking of upgrading my TT system speakers and was considering these two. It's the bedroom system and has no sub. C1 with a TFM25 and a tube buffer.Any good bookshelf suggestions welcome but needs to be in the 400.00 range.
don 69 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Have a pair of PSB Stratus mini's in a spare bedroom. Very happy with them. A pair can be had in excellent condition in that price range or slightly less. Decent bass without a sub.
pindrop 330 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I lived, and still am unable to sell because I still love them, with a set of Paradigm Reference Studio 20's. They are the originals and can be had for $400 or less. Bottom end in the 40's, beautiful miss and a bit bright in the highs but your buffer would take care of that. Still available, still a great set of bookshelf/stand speakers.
niccolosito 328 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 At $96 for the pair at Amazon right now, the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR is worth your consideration, if I may humbly suggest. Check out customers' comments on the site and a few posts on our own site and you might just consider to give them a listen. If you want to hear them and can't wait, you can call your local BestBuy and ask them to match Amazon's price. If you're not happy and can't live with them lowly Pioneers, you know what to do but keep an open mind and allow them a few days to burn in. Now, if it were me who'll be spending the $300 you're saving if you decide to keep them, I'd seriously search for an M-4.0t or a TFM 4.0. But I'll use it on my MAIN speakers as either amp is that good. Just another suggestion to mess up your mind!!
PMAT 2,041 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 The pioneers are great bargain by cannot compete in the bass range. For $400 you can buy phenom speakers if you take time. I run a perfect pair of AL IIIs in my bedroom because my bed is high and the speaker height makes for great listening. Few wives would go for six ft speakers in the bedroom though. I got em for $600 and a beat up set for a Hun.
PMAT 2,041 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Sorry OTD, I have not heard the LSi. I have heard the the B$Ws. I own a set of B$Ws now. The 705 has a great tweeter that crosses fairly low. They sound great in small rooms with the room gain for low end support. They usually sell for way more than $400 so grab them if they are available. They are always easy to resell. The Polks have many great reviews and I doubt you could go wrong there either. The paradyms and the psb are solid performers no doubt. The $400 speaker market is flooded here. Easy pickings except for the B$Ws. Good luck and keep us informed. Pics too!
Balok 1,675 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 OTD, i thought you already had a pair of B&W 705s?

I guess when I get my new TT and get it set up I will take them home and do a compare with my Wharfedales.
oldtexasdog 2,458 Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 OTD, i thought you already had a pair of B&W 705s? Yes I do but they are in my main system and I had a chance to maybe score a pair for 400.00 off E? I will also take those heavy bruts (125 lbs each) with stands and do a A&B comparison with my Wharfedale's. The Wharfedale specs are tis Nominal Impedance: 6 Ohms Recommended Amplifier Power: 25-125 Watts Sensitivity: 88 dB Midrange Unit: Horn Loaded Treble Unit: Horn Loaded Frequency Response: 45 - 29 kHz So you can see these speakers realy like it Loud!! the more power the better they sound. In the Bedroom TT system it's all about low volume:) and sensitive Full response with delicate overtones:-) that linger and decay soo gently and caresses with their clarity and precision, with a sibilance's for the understated while leaving nothing un resolved.. The fact that a album only last about 30 min helps also!!!
