FWIW bass management gets difficult with SACD. The players output 6 channel direct, with minimal processing options, and the processors and receivers that take in the analog 6 channel direct usually don't let you do much with the signals. You're generally stuck with whatever's in the sub channel. IIRC, SACD also assumes "large" speakers in all channels. So if you're running "small" speakers at all, the low bass from those channels is inaccessible. emangry.gif

The alternative is running the analog everything through several channels of crossovers and subsequently mixing. IMHO not the cleanest option, but MiniDSP might be best. Or split into a multichannel bass management processor, so the non-bass is unmolested. Multichannel bass management is rare in single units, but I've been intrigued by the M&K BMC-1.

Don't worry Kevin, if I decide to unload the Def Techs, your first in line. Listening to the U2 War CD as I type. Picked it up at the GW today for a buck. Love that place.

Right on. You want five full range identical speakers and a matching sub. SACD almost warrants it's own designated system. So let's count- 1. Serious 2 channel listening system(or 2.1). 2. Full HT system, anywhere from 5.1 through 11.2 up to an ATMOS system. 3. SACD 5.1 system. 4. Computer system. 5. Bedroom System. 6. Garage System. OK. I'll get right on that!

The scarey thing is, I do believe he has enough to pull it off. Plus all the other equipment to make every system happen.
So Kevin, just let me know when you need help. 5.1 with all your CRM-2's should rock. I wanna hear DSOTM on SACD, LOUD!

The best set up was four Polk RTA-15tl's and a CS-400I, Sony CDP-ES, Sony STR-ES and 5 Soundstream DA-2 amps. PSB sub. God it was loud! And clean. The absolute best SACD disc was Downward Spiral by NIN. I got dizzy following sounds around the room.14.gif

So why did you move away from that?
Same reason you would- "Let's try something else!"cool0016.gif

It sucks when you realize the pursuit is not worth more than the desired result.

I design a system in my head, put it together and go, "OK, yeah, it does sound good, I was right."
Than move on to the next one I put together in my head. I have a few stored. Like the 5.1 EL34 and KT88 that I have all the components for, but have yet to assemble. I have three Dyna MK III and an ST-70 that work, waiting for their turn. Sad. I'll just sell them once I hear it.

Yep. I get that.

Then I just want to hear what I like and end up re-buying what I had. Sad.

I've been usings subs off and on for 4-5 years.

I used to feel the EV sp12's were outperforming most of the subs, till I ran into my velodyne.

Then I found a B&W ASW3000, that blew the doors off the velodyne.

I now have a B&W PCS8 pair that I need to power with a good amp and the B&W 802's will be left in the dust for the last 10-12 hz Under 20 vs 30 or so.

Need power ... need more power ...

Cool.

What model Velodyne? Nothing I've ever had could touch my ULD-18. I want another(pair?).

What do you have for power now?

I've only owned one sub in my life. It was a Polk 550 back when I had a 5.1 system. I really need to get my ears on a few different ones before I buy another.

Besides Sunfire, definitely try JBL, Klipsch, PSB and Velodyne!

The Velo was a sc1250 if I recall.
I am running straight stereo + center when I am doing movies. No sub. The 802's are plenty good.
The eventual plan along with setting up a 7.1 is to get the PCS8's powered with a nak pa 7 or a crown or something that works well ... and actually to find the fcm8 and put em on top and cross over @ 350 hz out of the sub into the mains.
The 802's then would go to the true stereo setup ... or turn into $$$.
The room acoustics suck, I lose airiness and treble due to the low ceiling, I lose bass due to slab foundation and I lose mids due to all the furniture unless I lift the speakers a foot off the floor. So sparkly treble is my sacrifice. I'd rathe rhave mids and lows.
Cool.

350 Hz (or higher?) is a really high Schroeder frequency. Is your listening room a broom closet?

I don't think I could live life without a subwoofer of some sort...the first $550 I had to my name went to a Cerwin Vega 15" sub that I integrated into my super duper awesome Aiwa mini system. I've not been without a sub of some sort since.

If size is a concern, I have a small Yamaha unit that works surprisingly well in small rooms at low to moderate listening levels...I think it only has a 6.5" driver, but it sounds far better than I would have ever thought.

This sub kicks ass. Not like a JL Audio sub, but it also didn't COST what a JL costs...

There are some incredible hexagonal subs out there!

Reminds me of the Power Sound Audio T-18 .

Or if price is no object, a Paradigm SUB-2 is a serious contender among the smaller non-Pro options.
