Hello,

I am looking to buy 2 good woofers or more (surround condition are not important) and a set of badges or emblems for Carver Amazing Silver Speakers.

Thanks,
George

Do they have to be used? Sounds like u should avoid the "simply-speaker" site due to woofers being the wrong size as per unclemeats post below. I have edited this to reflect that. />http://www.simplyspeakers.com/carver-amazing-silver-replacement-woofer-w-1220.html

Here is the dynavox link instead. http://www.dynavox.com/12inch-Carver-Amazing-Loudspeaker-Paper-Cone-Woofer-DriverIn any case, I'm sure someone has a couple of loose ones lying around.

The woofers are available new from Dynavox and reproductions of the emblems are available on eBay.

The SimplySpeakers replacement surrounds were the wrong size for PMAT's speakers; we found that out after removing the foam on all six drivers. The basket size was larger on his woofers, apparently there were two basket sizes during production of the ALS Silvers. Contact Dynavox for replacement foam surrounds.

The Simply Speakers foam for the Carver AL-III's is also the wrong size (foam roll too narrow & shallow).

I would strongly recommend buying new replacements from Dynavox vs trying to refoam your existing woofers. They are reasonably priced and are quite easy to install. My Silvers had shredded surrounds on all six woofers and I blew a voice coil on one of the replacements so I bought six more not knowing how long they might last (Dynavox does not always have these in inventory). In any event, I now have five spares and have not blown any of the other original replacements. I also bought two replacement ribbons a couple of years ago which I'm sitting on because I don't ever want to be without my Silvers.

You'll find these woofers sound better and better the more you play them - the bass response will improve dramatically.

Thanks for all the responses and sorry for the delay. I thought I had a bad woofer and was going to buy a few replacements but it ended up being a separated wire that comes from the spider to the terminals. It was a quick fix with solder. I also ordered a few of the silver logo's offered by an ebay seller although not an exact match it looks like a nice alternative. I did see the woofers offered by  Dynavox which is a nice option if I wanted to go with new. The new surrounds are installed and fired up the Silvers last night. The speakers sound and look great but I will need more juice these are very power hungry.

George

Nice job troubleshooting George.  Glad to hear you are back up and running.
Post a pic if you can.  As a Silver owner myself, I love seeing how others have them setup.  I have mine bridged mono to feed that power craving but boy do they sound sweet!

Silver Owners Unite!

There are a lot of us. We need a Silver-Owner-Medal.

Mine can take TONS of power. Still, be careful.

I decided this week end to give my silvers a serious work out just to see what they could take, mine are bi amped with a 600 signature driving the ribbons and a 600 driving the woofers and I actually saw the ashly crossover clip warning light flicker at 14 on the volume. Volume is 100 back to 0 on the sunfire pre. It was pretty darn loud.

Dang Cuda that's some serious power--even kapton on a Cape Canaveral Space Shuttle lift-off would appreciate.  Applause

Thanks aslan7. I took a few picts of grills off/on and new badges. I will post them in the upcoming days. Haven't done that yet but as a new member but should be able to figure out the process up uploading picts.
