DrummerJuice 1,288 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I've got it stuck in my head that I would like to try di-pole speakers and I hear the Quad ESL 57 is one of the best of all time. I've found 2 pair in Alberta that seem like a deal. Not sure if they are worth the effort. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-speakers/red-deer/4x-quad-esl-57-speakers-for-project/1406765001 1
Magnaryder 757 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) Ed(sea) has a set he brought to the 'Fest in 2017. I took my EAR just to hear it on the Quads. Tim deParavicini designed the V20 specifically to run his ESL-57s, the result was magic. Just a good amp won't cut it, you need a great amplifier to bring out the nuance in the music that's present in a speaker that resolves at the level of the 57. That said, the Quads are and have been the pinnacle of transducer achievement for many an audiophile chasing the grail. Grab them up and get with Ed. The fellow that restored his set is probably still available and you can get underway. ray btw, I'm really jealous dude Edited January 3, 2019 by Magnaryder 2 1

I have a friend who loves and repairs Maggies that I'm hoping to go in halfs with (he doesn't know yet). Do you think my M-1.0t or M-1.5t are up to the task? 1

You'd have to be careful with power application. The V20 has 24 ball busting watts. That would be alot of repair dollars to burn up. What are they asking $$ wise? ray
DrummerJuice 1,288 Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) It's 2 pair for $925 CAD. Seems like a good price when refurbished ones go for $2000+ Edited January 3, 2019 by DrummerJuice Spelling 1

kingman 663 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) Refurb cost plus cosmetics drive the price. It's already a project he abandoned as I read..... Edited January 3, 2019 by kingman 2
Brian_at_HHH 2,728 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 @DrummerJuice the ad pretty much says what @kingmansaid - there are 2 in "repairable/refurbishable" condition, and two only meant as parts doner's. If I were you, I'd let him know you are interested, and talk to him about them. If they are in pretty decent shape, it's a good deal. If they are more in the iffy realm, it may not be a rabbit hole you want to go down. Once you've talked to the seller, suck it up and chat with your Maggie repair friend and see if he runs for the hills, or says "cool, bring 'em on!" No matter what, good luck with it and let us know what happens! 1
