Or am I missing something ? A very valid question... I strongly believe one should base their speaker selection on their listening area. What sounds terrific in a showroom, that has been designed and treated perfectly, will not sound the same in your listening area. I listened to some amazing systems at CF. The right speaker would have a side wall (below a large glass window) , the left speaker would be open to the room... This is not ideal yet listeners claimed to hear "imaging" and all of the other "critical listening" adjectives. My listening area is not ideal. I do not have a long flat wall with corresponding side walls. (so 901's are out) 2
Brian_at_HHH 2,720 Posted February 19, 2019 Author Posted February 19, 2019 Just a quick FYI, for anyone who may be looking for a speaker selector with some power capability - to let you power speakers in different rooms, so as to avoid treading further into dangerous waters, and because someone only has one really great amp - here's something I tripped across. I can't tell you what the quality is like, or whether there are any side effects, I only know it from published specs (dangerous at best, I know), but I felt I should pass along a currently made device that says it can handle 400 watts. Now is that 400 watts RMS, and/or per channel ... it doesn't say, so Caveat Emptor. It could well mean it will handle 200 watts per channel peaks, but it's one of the only options I saw in browsing around that said anything over 150-200 watts. https://www.osdaudio.com/products/speaker-selector/ir-remote/atm-7.html And no, I am not getting one, I don't have any spare space for more speakers at this time (in the same room or elsewhere), so it's really a mute point at this stage. 1

Rockster2U 669 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 OK Brian, it’s probably time for your intellectual curiosity to be rewarded. I haven’t used my Russound Speaker Selector for at least 10 years but it could easily be mistaken as brand spanking new. If you want it, it’s yours free of charge. I would like to be reimbursed for shipping costs but I think you’ve more than earned the component itself. Send me a PM with your shipping address and I’ll get it headed in your direction by the end of the week. I’ll also dig out any spec sheets, manuals or paperwork that came with it when I bought it. It will be double boxed and sent USPS Priority and we can settle up on the shipping after I’ve mailed it. Yes, I know you are in Canada. It’s yours if you want it. 2 3
Brian_at_HHH 2,720 Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 Wow, thanks very much for the offer @Rockster2U, but hang onto it for now. It's all too possible (and even very likely) that I will never actually have a use for it. Just because I'm trying to ponder ways of doing it, doesn't make it physically possible right now (note I'm completely ignoring the $$$ side of the whole affair, like any good OCCD addict). I'm still trying to sort out how to fit in my relatively new (to me) sub. I've ordered bigger shoehorns but they don't fit in either. Let's just say I'm glad my current speakers are relatively narrow. ? If I do break down and find some extra speakers that I can't resist, I will see if you are still looking for a new home for it, but for now, there's always the chance that someone else could really use it, instead of it being a shelf queen, again. Again, thank you so much for the incredible offer. I keep being astounded by the folks here, and only hope I can aspire to what the group of you are about. 1 1
Bobby1970 1,528 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I remember an older man spoke to me before he cannot embrace the multiple speaker setups today, he's satisfied with the two channels he have. While playing tapes from his Nakamichi Dragon he told me that he only have two ears for two speakers, he cannot dedicate another pair of ears for other speakers, I noticed in the other room a bunch of audio systems that he is keeping. I was not attentive to brands and models back then. He also told me something about the word connoisseur but I'm not listening cause my ears are glued to the quality of music I am hearing that I can describe as big sounding music. Just sharing. Thank you. 1 1
