B Wilson 3 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I had my sub repaired once already and when looking for the new problem none of the bolt on heatsinks were installed per the fix of 98. So, my circuit board is now burnt in two places. Would you happen to have a fix for that or should I buy it in the back yard and upgrade to something 22 years newer? 3
Sk1Bum 11,368 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Hello B Wilson, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. I moved your post from the Downloads forum and into the Loudspeakers forum. I wish I could answer your question, but I am by no means a technician. Most likely someone more knowledgeable than me will be along to answer your question. Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard. 1
Dadvw 2,875 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Welcome B Wilson! You’re at the right place to ask that kind of question. I am not a technician either, I just repair my own gear. If you can’t find any replacement parts for it, could you possibly use another Carver amp to drive the sub speaker? Edited May 5, 2020 by Dadvw
RodH 4,866 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 When you can, maybe you can post a pic of the PCB for the technoids here to have a look at. Welcome aboard! 1 2
Brian_at_HHH 2,691 Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Welcome to the group! There are definitely people here who can help guide you on what can be done with your sub. Depending on the amount of damage and how fond of the sub, you are, the techs can help you decide on repair or replace. As long as the main bulk of the sub is intact, odds are there are folks here that can fix it!
kve777 6,881 Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 As an alternative, you might just install a more modern plate amp. Parts Express has quite a selection, HERE. Or, just make it passive, bypass the internal amp and run it with a Carver power amp. Welcome! 1
