Carver PM-1.5 5 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 How's it going, I'm Darrell and I'm a new Carver amp owner. I own 2 amps, the PM-1.5 which is hooked up to my Kenwood KT-5020 receiver and my Kenwood GE-7030 equalizer. My Kenwood amp bit the dust, my fault, to many ohms. I had my other Carver, a PM-2.0t hooked up first but it quit on me, now it just has a real low beep. I have to use the fuse cap for my pm-1.5, I only have the one. The thing is, I'm not sure if I should continue using it, as the fan hasn't came on, I don't blast it at all, for that reason. I heard that the pm-1.5 is a lot better than the pm-2.0t. I did kick the 2.0t up a couple of times but only to 3½ which was pretty load, I don't think the 1.5 is as loud at 3½, but I keep it at 1-1½ because of the fan. Well anyhow that's what I'm doing now, music 🎶 not tv. Got to get back to working on my moms Nitro, new brakes pads and rotors plus other repairs, just purchased when her car got to hot and blew the head gasket and possibly cracked the head. She had that auto crap which they ripped her off. Until whenever, later 5
3M_Audio 2,022 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Welcome! The fan on your PM-1.5 should run continuously although very slowly at idle. It will ramp up in speed quite a bit when the internal temperature of the amp rises. At 50C it will sound like a jet engine is running. But of course, if the amp is that warm the music should be so loud you'd likely never hear the fan 🙂 If the fan isn't running at all it might simply be clogged with dirt and a good cleaning could get it back into operation. Or it could be burnt out and require service/replacement. The good news is that these amps are all serviceable. There are some owners that run these amps without the fan (to keep the noise down) without any trouble although likely not at extreme power levels. And some others have replaced the stock fan with a small computer type-fan that won't supply as much airflow, but is much quieter and will keep air moving through the unit. If you search here you should find some good discussion about both options. And if you're looking for repair service, get in touch with Nelion Audio at https://nelionaudio.com/ 2
