tmf 9 Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Hi Just joined and just got a pm 1.5 which I think sounds amazing. Very very noisy fan though. So I have a question: should I - lubricate the current fan motor, replace the fan motor, replace the fan with a computer fan or can I even run the amp without the fan? I am using the amp in a domestic setting in a 4m x 5m room Thanks! 7
tmf 9 Posted July 31, 2025 Author Posted July 31, 2025 ok, going to try a drop of oil first, any comments from someone with fan experience very much appreciated! 1
Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,842 Posted July 31, 2025 Community Admin Posted July 31, 2025 Welcome to TheCarverSite, @tmf, glad you found us. That's a great amp. I don't have one and others have opinions they can share about the fan noise, and abatement options. Again, welcome to TCS! When you get a chance, post a picture or two of your setup..., we love pics.
Yamacarver 841 Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Hello and welcome Try searching the site, there is a built-in search function, I say this because the subject comes up often and I recall one discussion recently.

Sk1Bum 12,881 Posted August 1, 2025 Posted August 1, 2025 Hi tmf and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us. @BobTFM35pointed you in a good direction. Good luck with the repair/modification. There are more threads on replacing the pro series amp fans with computer fans.
tmf 9 Posted August 1, 2025 Author Posted August 1, 2025 Thank you @BobTFM35 and hello everyone. I will read through the threads... I actually oiled the motor last night and that has made things a lot quieter. Before, my son was mistaking the amp for the dishwasher in the next room(!). The computer fan sounds like it might be the way to go. Love the sound of the amplifier! 1
BobTFM35 3,056 Posted August 1, 2025 Posted August 1, 2025 You are welcome. Another option might be one of these. You can get them on Amazon. Equipment Cooling - PROJECT FANS - Axial AC Fan Kits - AC Infinity I put this on top of my Marantz unit Equipment Cooling - ELECTRONICS COOLING - AV Receiver Fans - AC Infinity 1
timmyjim 482 Posted August 1, 2025 Posted August 1, 2025 I think the best option for home use is a quiet computer fan. You would need to change out the resistors on the fan board to accommodate the higher impedance of the new fan. The amp vents by pulling air from front to back. This post uses a 80mm computer fan. Note that it's just a bit too large and needed to be sanded down a bit. 2
