Gene C 1,748 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Bought a pair of Kappa 6 speakers off of ebay last month for $435.00 total w/shipping and were in really great condition, couldn't pass them up. Heres what showed up... The seller and i came to an agreement. Rather than me ship them back for a refund i suggested he paypal me $200.00 for the cost of repair on the Polydomes, to which he agreed. Nice guy by the way. He had no idea how to ship these correctly which is why there was damage. Repaired Polydome going in... Had to get 6 of these grill clips from Michael Marks "A big Infinity guy on ebay" who also did the repair on the Polydomes. Great guy to deal with. Had to recover the grilles to give them that new look. Masking tape for over spray on the 3M 90 adhesive. Had a good time working on these. They will be paired with a Bill D C-1 by Dennis and an M-1.0t MKII by Rich P. This system will wind up in my office so while im away from home ill be jamming out to some good tunes. Might even piss off other tenants in the building.
Daddyjt 9,612 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 VERY nice work, Gene! LOVE those dome mids:-)
weitrhino 1,443 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Nicely done, Gene. Any assessment on how the Kappa's sound?
Gene C 1,748 Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks guys! I be testing them today when I get home. Going to use the A-400x for the test, then maybe a TFM-45 for comparison. They are rated between 4-8 ohms. I'm sure they are under rated like my 9's due to the crossover network.
Gene C 1,748 Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Measured impedance at speaker input it came out to 3.8 ohms clearly not 8 or even 6 ohms . They actually surprised me listening to them, the bass response was tight and quick. Didn't expect that out of those speakers, but they are Kappas. Spent an hour listening to them and didn't want to get up and put it all away before the wife got home. Everything is back in the closet until the Bill. D. C-1 and the M-1.0t MKII show up.
Hibernator69 47 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Very nice looking speakers. Really love the stands too. Just wish I hadn't seen the post the day after my brother put my new Klipsch KG 4 speakers in the mail.
soulofsound 40 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Cool system! I see you like Infinity ! I love mine.
helicopter pilot doug 110 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Good job Gene! That was a good buy. They look like they just came off the show room floor! Enjoy
Gene C 1,748 Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 Wanted to add this to the thread incase I get asked again in the future. Pedestal measurements. Top of pedestal dimensions 8 3/4 x 11 1/4 .. Base 14 3/8 x 10 3/8 .."The top of pedestal is angled back a little" From base to top of pedestal (front) 1' (rear) 11 1/4 .. The block stopper on the backside of the pedestal is 5/8 x 5/8.
Belvedere2 232 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I think I've seen those on the 'bay a couple times. Been able to resist them since I really want Kappa 8s. I have enough amp for them just wouldn't want to run 9s.
HappyTrails 498 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Nice Job! From someone who's first real speakers were Infinity's (1981-ish) I've never met a pair I didnt like
