This is for poor folks way of cleaning, everyone can't drop 300 to 600 bucks on a cleaning machine LOL

Well... paid 1k for mine. You could always send me your records for cleaning, depending on which ones they are, may not send them back for a while. emwink.gif

This works to a degree...it works as well as a wet cleaning with a brush. It will remove large particles but not small dust, cig smoke, etc. In my experience, record cleaning in order of how well it works:

1. Dry cleaning with brush----ok, but not really all that good

2. wet cleaning with brush----better,will remove large particles.

3. Vacuum machine cleaning with fluid---now we are talking...works very well and will remove small particles and cig smoke remnants.

4. Vacuum machine cleaning with enzyme cleaner----really gets the records clean and will destroy mold as well.

5. Steam cleaning with vacuum machine cleaning----huge improvement, gets records very quiet. Makes a big difference in dynamic range and fidelity.

6. Ultrasonic cleaning----best available cleaning process. Does everything above plus some...only downfall is the price of the machines.

I've been cleaning records for 10 years and collected for 20 years. Let me know if anyone has questions. Thanks!

Okay, 14 hours later:
 7DryAgain_zpsccbe89e6.jpg
Lots of air bubbles. Not too worried, just proof of concept.

Peeled off okay, the bottom area not completely done, but didn't want the rest to get too brittle.

Came off in two pieces, but cleanly.
10CleanCloseUp_zpsf5f40e91.jpg Close-up thru magnifying glass. Doesn't really show here, but fingerprints are still there.

By this point I'm nearly through the album side. It played through without any problems. Seems relatively clean in spite of numerous scratches. I don't have any real impression of improvement because I didn't listen to the record before cleaning.

So, I guess this all means you can clean a record using wood glue (I use Titebond II also). How effective it is I'm not sure. Whether or not you want to is another matter. I have a couple prized records I would love to clean, but I don't think I would use this method.

Did you try playing the glue impression? wink. (forgot, no emoticons available with whatever version of IE I'm using)

Ha Ha! If only it didn't break during removal.

Would probably be some kind of Satanic message tho...

By the way, played the other side while, well, wasting time. Side 2 is considerably noisier.

I read the articles and with your skills you have this is something you could probably build yourself Perry.  Just not sure where you would get the ultrasonic vibrator and the motor for rotating the records.

From what I've read the 60-80kh work much better....
Was thinking one revolution, have to figure out how much time per rev, and I'd
like to incorporate a fan for drying as well.

Talk is cheap......but I've been thinking about one of these for a while now....
