  1. The R2R and Vinyl blows away 8 track and cassette... Very true! But my Akai RTR has 8-track on the side of it, so they go together. I have a Panasonic and Pioneer RTR, too, as well as some other 8-track deck I can't remember. I just want to be able to play any format. I no longer own a 4-track deck or tapes(Muntz) but I used to! I have some Quad recordings, so I'm thinking about making a 4-channel system, too. I have 4 AR-94's, I might use here, plus I have the Snell Type Ci's I picked up Saturday. Very cool. I love the Snell's. Apparently there is only one artist who has recorded in all 5 formats...R2R, Vinyl, 8-Track, Cassette and CD. Any guesses?...
  2. I can't quite make out the model but i have a pristine RS-1500 that Jeff Jacobs at J-Corder worked his magic on as well as a RS-1700...and they truly sing... Actually i believe this unit is a RS-1700 Auto reverse...very cool. it uses a photo eye to sense light through clear leader tape rather than foil tape over a post like the Teac X-2000R does...

  4. The R2R and Vinyl blows away 8 track and cassette...
  5. Whats really scary is tape set up on a good machine is even better than vinyl...I listened to 60+ year old tape recordings at RMAF 2010 and they were stunning...
  6. Papajoe, Every time i spin a record, it makes me younger...or it feels that way. Don't ever stop spinning vinyl...
  7. Wow!...very nice shape. You're going to love them...I love the Nanaimo/Ladysmith area. I'll have to start putting some pic's together myself...again, Welcome.

  13. Hello Bob...and welcome from a newbie...I'm not sure what you folks built at Carver Fest but i'm curious about the 20 watt mono blocks and most definitely a tube phono stage...are the mono blocks parallel 300B's or similar?...looking forward to seeing anything tube based as well as new reviews from the written press...you know they love you guy's...and they need you...
  14. That should have read Shite Ronnie!
  15. RichP nailed it..fingers moving up in chord formation...to the next chord. Ronnie Hawkins was trying to teach Robbie Robertson one of his songs and told Robertson to stop squeaking the strings...Robbie replied...Shit Ronnie! even Andre Segovia squeaks his strings...Ronnie's reply was ..." I know boy! that's why he ain't in my band"...
  16. Thank you very much for the welcome...i might get to look-see a couple of times a week and i'll look you all up and check out your interests...bottom line...i love every kind of music...and how it's presented equals the performance...tape, vinyl, good digital...tube, or solid state......At present, i'm running my recently purchased C-1 pre with a couple of Bottlehead Paramount 300 b's and my Garrard 401. i put in my beloved TX- 11b so as to switch between inputs and listen for noise...I have a number of phono stages. Project tube box 2 and SE2... cartridges's...Denon 103's and old 12" SME tone arms...i love that combo...Back in 1972-74 when i started putting my first rig together...JBL Century 100's...Thorens TD 160 and a Marantz 1060...i was hooked and i can still put that same rig together today...or very close...Thanks again for your time...Steve...If i might add...it helps to have a very cool lava lamp...
  17. Both delayed and future pioneers...in my mind anyways...

  20. Hello Blues Pwr...Thanks for the intro...i think i'm getting the hang of this...my system?.. Analog....Turntables and Tape machines... 2 Garrard 301's...grease and oil as well as a 401. 2 Thorens TD 124's. 2 TD 160's as well as a 145...Rega P7 and a Planar 25 ...RTR tape...Technics RS 1500 and a RS 1700...2 Teac X-2000R"s...It's a start, i'll post you later with some more stuff...It hurts to see this in print...no wonder why my relationship with my wife crumbles at times...

  23. Hello folks, my name is Steve...i go by staticvar...i'm a new member and i'm totally lost trying to navigate this site/forum. If possible, can someone baby step me through the first few communications/posts so i might be able to understand how this works. I was able to talk to BillD in what appears to be similar to email. I can't seem to find a easy text entry bar that might say comment or post...and it wasn't easy getting this far. I'm OK checking topics...but i'm thinking there has to be an easier way to respond...any help please...thanks. And yes i see the three Preview, Post, Cancel buttons below...
