Yes, so nice. (The piano player reminds me of Jack Lemmon.)

Even better than the other one ... Better quality recording, cool guitar solo, not to mention the gams.

Who uses which media for primary listening and why?iamjohngalt replied to halfbaked's topic in Physical digital I could not hear a difference between an external USB DAC box and the ASUS Xonar card in the same pc at the time but I have better speakers now. Since that you mention it, I will have to do a listening test of that old ASUS Xonar card vs the RPi DAC just for fun.

Who uses which media for primary listening and why?iamjohngalt replied to halfbaked's topic in Physical digital The audio-specialized storage products appear to be at extraordinarily high prices for a little arguable convenience. A 2TB USB drive is $50, 4TB is about $90, and any pc made since 2014 with easy to use open source software can rip from cd's to lossless FLACs, WAVs, or lossy MP3s (usually at 6x or faster the normal dc playback speed.) Anyone who can understand how to get email online can do it. For playback the pc sound circuitry included on the motherboard can be improved upon with either an add-on internal card or a USB external AD/DA converter. I have had good sound results from both. As I mentioned earlier, the PiFi DAC with a RPi3 can be used to distribute tunes (up to 384kbsampling rate, 112db dynamic range) from a pc hd to hifi systems over wifi with excellent results, too, although it does require some reasonable setup time.

Who uses which media for primary listening and why?iamjohngalt replied to halfbaked's topic in Physical digital I stream from my digital library (FLAC on hard drives) and internet radio over my wifi using this: And when the source recording is good, it sounds amazing through all my Carver amps. ;^) DAC (PCM5122 chip - 384kHz high sampling rate, 112dB dynamic range) is excellent and for under $100 sounds better than most high end streaming solutions costing hundreds more. In addition it has 4 USB inputs, HDMI output, and can be wired to the network if desired. It can use either volumio or logitech media server for streaming with wifi remote control from a pc, android, or iphone. (It can also drive most headphones.)

Among the millions of recordings that make up the almost infinite body of work that is jazz, thousands of magical songs stand out by how they make you feel. Those inspired recordings exude elegance and sophistication while their timeless melodies cast a spell, dissolving worries and melting away stress. At The Jazz Groove, those songs - jazz's coolest - are our specialty. The performers, songwriters and producers who’ve created Jazz Groove style music are pure genius. Treat yourself to a meticulously curated blend of jazz spanning seven decades; from national treasures like Miles Davis, Cole Porter, Quincy Jones, Billie Holiday, George Gershwin, Nat King Cole, and Ramsey Lewis to today’s luminaries including Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Kurt Elling, and Joshua Redman. When you listen to The Jazz Groove you’re bathed in a deeply therapeutic, artful collection of jazz. The Jazz Groove is a service of the Foundation to Advance Jazz to which contributions are tax deductible. Our mission is to dramatically expand the jazz audience. Carver Preamplifiers - Need Opinionsiamjohngalt replied to TomcatCrew's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first) My recent experience indicates to me that there are lots of choices and to some extent it will depend on your preference and what you like to hear. All of the comments below are using Carver power amps (m4.0t and m500t unmodified.) I have an Emotiva UMC-1 multi-channel preamp/DAC that was a step up from a previous model Emotiva in playing stereo music (and HT). Listening to the praise here for the C-1, when I saw one for sale locally, I bought it immediately. It was a significant improvement in sound to my ears over the sound of the Emotiva for stereo. A few weeks later I compared it to a Hafler 101 preamp and found the Hafler just a bit sweeter sounding, but in a very close race with the C-1. Then I started listening to tube preamps and comparing them with the C-1 and Hafler. There is a world of difference. For my tastes and preferences of music, tube preamps can be much more pleasant and enjoyable than either the C-1 or the Hafler 101. They tend to be easy to listen to for hours without fatigue and just sound more lifelike and what I have heard called "musical." However, I have also heard one tube preamp that was extremely revealing, but, to me, too harsh to enjoy. Circuit design and specific components used are crucial to the results. The approach best for me is to enjoy this hobby and to listen and compare lots of different gear with many different types of music. And enjoy the process
