  1. It's a design that Bob made several years ago. It's purpose is 2 channel stereo SH..
  2. As for me, it's been difficult to find an association between most media and my personal experience with an audio product. In this market and media environment, combined with Audiophile science lies that sound good. The gullible unscientific customer is a target. I have to hear audio products at home today, because otherwise the risk is too high that the product may be a waste of my time and money. I was burned in the late 1980 chasing better resistive load measurement and my enjoyment of the hobby suffered. The media today is down to describing the tonal balance of multi thousand dollar power cords in terms of veils lifted and chocolate flavors, which is entirely BS.. The credibility in the media is very sparse. These marketers of BS are doing harm to the industry in the name of the industry. Someone being an insider should give you pause, not confidence. You don't buy cars without test drives (I hope) new audio products should be the same way, that used car salesman's words should not carry too much weight. On the other side of the audio fence, where the grass is supposedly greener, you have a measurement competition for driving sine waves into load resisters most accurately, only to have there best measuring products not be the best sounding for driving the reactive, dynamic and variable impedance loads of music and loudspeakers.. There are many conflicts of information in this industry. Protect yourself and hear a product at home. If they need a restocking fee to let me hear it, that tells me all I need to know to eliminate that product from consideration
  3. Having worked with Eaton on some aircraft systems, they are above the audiophile engineering BS.. Science based company, no bull.
  4. Peter is a writer that passed away. He is respected by Bob Carver and is science based. Bob recommended Peter to me. Here is a good introduction to Peter. Enjoy! I agree with what Peter says about vacuum tube products overall as they were, but Bob has improved them significantly since Peter wrote this. Gone are the high heat and high maintenance and soft bottom end due to the common tube amp voltage sag. Definitely not your fathers tube amps. https://www.ecoustics.com/articles/ten-biggest-lies-audio/
  5. Good points JV.. This lead to the buffer being an option for those with solid state systems who want to add some tubes, but it will be available with or without the buffer as an option.
  6. Excellent input guys. Your input on subjects is very similar to the 'focus groups' within larger companies. Your input is appreciated.
  7. Agree 3M.. And it helps the customer avoid the cabal of old school reps, dealers and marketing publications in magazines and on-line. It's a closed loop system of deception in many cases. By the time the customer gets their product through these "experts", the product the customer receives cost 5x the cost to make the product. How much value remains for the customer? If you want bragging rights on how much money you spent, go to a fancy showroom an listen to a sales pitch.. If you want value, buy direct and hear for yourself. Believe your ears, they won't fail you. Hear for yourself. Don't take my word for it or any other person involved in this industry. The majority lie for money. I've had to deal with lies and deception in this industry myself since taking this job. I would not believe the marketing pitch any more than a used car salesman. Test drive it at home, the media value to the customer is almost nothing at this point.. Actually the media value is worse than nothing to the customer because it encourages impulse buying and unhappy customers often result. If you can't get an in-system trial without a restocking fee, it should raise a red flag.
  8. Hi Bob, Likely 6DJ8. For the customers who want the tube buffer option, the tubes will be exposed through the lid (similar to an amp) and have some copper colored cages on them. The standard version with have a nice flat top, for easy stacking.
  9. Being a former audio dealer myself, I can vouch for this mans article. These are the reasons Bob Carver sells factory direct with a money back guaranty. The customers satisfaction is assured and more money stays in the product they receive, offering even greater customer value. Selling direct allows for better, more customer focused, value added policies. https://www.johnwdefeo.com/articles/audiophile-scams John DeFeo Twenty years ago, I worked at one of the premier Hi-Fi shops in New Jersey. Our clientele ranged from NBA superstars to wealthy financiers to famous composers. (I fondly remember spending an afternoon with George Walker, the first African American to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Together, we listened to a Super Audio CD recording, discerning the subtle coughs, sniffles and sips of water amongst the members of the orchestra, reproduced by his stunning array of McIntosh tube amps and Avantgarde horn speakers.) Every client whom I met was looking for the best equipment that money could buy, but what is the best, really? It was during my time at the shop that I recognized the distinction between price and value — and how the line between those two concepts is blurred by psychology. Here are some lessons that I learned as an A/V salesman: THE SALESMAN'S PLAYLIST IS A LOADED DECK There are some songs that make cheap speakers sound great (e.g. Santa Esmeralda's version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood") and other songs that make great speakers sound mediocre (e.g. the woofer-rattling "I've Seen all Good People" by Yes). A clever salesman can use demo material to steer a listener toward whatever speakers he wants to sell. That's why it's important for shoppers to bring their own demo material to listen to; very few do. AUDIOPHILE CABLES ARE A WASTE OF MONEY For those willing to spend $32,800 on a three meter length of silver speaker wire, there are a handful of manufacturers that are happy to make it. However, even the best demo song or movie soundtrack was probably mastered on $5 worth of copper wire housed in a PVC jacket. I know this because our house electrician specialized in wiring recording studios and he used American Recorder cables exclusively in his builds. When we tested his budget cables against “audiophile cables” from MIT, Kimber and AudioQuest, we couldn't detect a difference. Nevertheless, our customers hated the idea of cheap cables, so we dropped the line. (Note: Some cables are legitimately expensive, like long-run optical HDMI cables.) EVEN EXPENSIVE SPEAKERS ARE RELATIVELY CHEAP In the pre-Internet era, a pair of $600 speakers cost the retailer $300. The store bought them from a wholesaler for $150. The warehouse bought them from the manufacturer for $75. And the manufacturer spent less than $40 in materials. This was a concept known as "keystone markup." The retail supply chain has changed a lot over the last 20 years, but the ratio between a speaker's cost and its sale price hasn't changed much. The upshot is this: Never pay full price for speakers. To illustrate this point, I present the price history of KEF's model Q150, which has a $599 MSRP (for a pair), yet is regularly discounted to $299. This kind of price fluctuation is commonplace. PREMIUM BRANDS DON’T MEAN PREMIUM QUALITY During my time as a salesman, our top-of-the-line Pioneer Elite DVD players were made by Sharp Corporation. Ten years later, Audioholics revealed that Lexicon's $3,500 THX-certified BD-30 Blu-ray player was little more than Oppo's $500 BDP-83 stuffed inside of an aluminum case. Oof! Notwithstanding the stories above, my time on the sales floor also taught me valuable and practical lessons about physics and audio engineering. For example, "the subwoofer crawl.” To find the ideal position for a subwoofer, the listener should place the sub where he or she sits, then crawl around the listening room until finding the spot where the bass sounds best. That’s where the subwoofer goes. Running two subwoofers in a room? There is a chance that the monaural sound waves from one of the subwoofers may cancel out the waves from its sister sub. To combat this problem, many subwoofers have polarity switches or phase shifting dials that allow 180 degree incremental changes. The A/V world is about nuance, but in the end, what looks and sounds "the best" is as subjective as any other sensory experience and equally prone to prejudice and placebo effects. The ultimate decision of what is good or bad, worth it or not, is for the listener to decide. 5 Likes Share Newer PostWhat Is Satisficing? 10. A DTL, autocorrelator, peak unlimitor could be a product of its own. For now the the SH generator will have the Gundry option included, and the tube buffer can be optional. The option can be fairly easy to accommodate and can keep the base unit cost lower. Guys can have it either way. Tubes sticking out the top are wanted by some, but not by others for stacking components. Part of the allure is the visible glow. The unit will be about the same depth as a C1 so it's friendly to be stacked with others. Thanks for the input. Keep it coming. Do you guys want to see video when the chassis and face plates are being machined?
  11. Hi Bob, Yes, it will have the radius countersinks with round push buttons similar to V12. Thanks
  12. Customers keep asking and we hear you. The concept is a C9 type stand alone component with black steel chassis and machined aluminum faceplate styled like the V12- RAM 285, with radiused corners and round selector buttons. So far popular request have been to include selector switches to add or defeat an onboard Gundry filter and tube buffer to the SH unit. It would have 3 options that could be used individually or all at once. What are your thoughts? Do you want to see tubes poking out the black top with some copper cages? Also a pair of vu meters was suggest as an option. They would serve no real purpose other than cosmetics. Thoughts. The target price is $499.
  13. Thank you. It will be next up after the RAM285. The world is moving at a snails pace compared to before COVID, but they are coming. Lead times that were in weeks are now in months. The Reference Preamplifier Model V12 (RPM V-12) has an excellent line stage, phono preamp, and headphone amp in one. Bob feels they are his best yet as individuals, but offered all in one. The headphone amp is a unique hybrid vacuum tube / Class A FET design. The heatsinks on top are for the headphone amp and functional.
  14. Some info off bobcarvercorp.com The New Bob Carver Company. Bob is Back! Again! During the COVID pandemic years, Bob Carver products were being produced in the USA by a licensed builder as Bob had plans to actually retire. Unfortunately, supply chain issues, population lock-downs and illness slowed their production to the point of closing the doors late in 2021. Unwilling to see his legacy end on a sour note, Bob came out of retirement once again in Feb 2022, and starting setting up an entirely new company armed with his greatest designs to date. Bob Carver LLC.. is owned entirely by Bob and his family. Bob brought Jim Clark on board. Jim is the former owner of a highly certified aerospace manufacturing company and owner of Jim Clark Stereo before going to work for Bob Carver. Jim is Director of Operations and reports exclusively to Bob Carver. Bob Carver is Owner, Physicist and Chief Design Engineer of Electronics and Styling. Bob is involved throughout the process from design concepts to implementation of his circuit designs. Bobs signature is required at each stage of development. Bob loves amplifiers and aircraft. His latest products reflect his lifelong passion for quality and value by design.
  15. Took a trade-in Black Magic 25 towards a RAM 285. The unit will be tested, cleaned and offered as preowned today with the remainder of it's warranty for the next owners enjoyment.
  16. High quality Viborg non-magnetic, rhodium plated speaker binding post for 8 and 4 ohm or less taps on the rear panel of the new RAM 285. These are not inexpensive parts, but the quality is exceptional among the samples we looked at. 8 per amp. Note the 2nd RCA jack on the left channel. This is the left subwoofer output jack. It is buffered and presents no additional load to you preamp or source. Often these stereo subwoofer outputs can allow the use of shorter interconnect cable to a subwoofer.
  17. In this thread, you can follow along as Bob Carver LLC, the company Bob founded in Feb 2022, after a licensed builder closed during COVID. Today, Bob's company produces Bob's latest product designs and offers them internet direct to customers for the highest customer value we can offer. The RPM V12 and the RAM 285 have been in development for 18 months. Some scheduling and chip shortages during COVID, made it necessary to shift priorities from RPM V12 to RAM 285 when already 75% complete on V12. The RPM V12 preamp has a small number of chips for the variety of functions and remote. This created a challenging delay. The RAM series of amplifiers are constructed with completely thru-hole construction, purely analog and have no chips, so we shifted gears accordingly and kept moving forward. The RAM 285 is the first product for Bob and his team. My name is Jim Clark. I report directly to Bob Carver. I work with Bobs great team of professionals to bring his designs to reality, while leveraging a modern business model that combines maximizing customer value with even higher performance. This enables sharing Bobs latest work with more of the people who have enjoyed his work for decades. This model allows a greater percentage of the customers investment to be focused on the product itself and the long term value the customer receives. It's an exciting time. I'll post here daily. Feel free to ask questions for Bob or call me directly. Bob doesn't pay much attention to emails or the endless scam phone calls, being semi-retired (who could blame him) but I talk to him several times per week. There is a lot of misinformation, speculation and rumor on-line. I'm happy to clarify for you. Jim Clark jim@bobcarvercorp.com 815-985-3557

Not only do we sell our products with a money back Carver Amplifier Challenge, in-home trial offer with NO restocking fee if don't love our product. Combine this with the best customer focused, depreciation limiting trade-up policy in the industry. Bob Carver customers receive unequaled value for their investment. https://www.bobcarvercorp.com/
  23. Hello Hz, It depends on the goal. Repair vs restoration. For restoration you will need to change the electrolytic capacitors. Sometimes the larger filter caps are unavailable and replaced with an array on an adaptor PCB.. If you reuse the unavailable big caps, testing them at their rated voltage is best. The service manual section is good.
