  1. I still have three of these that have no adhesive backing and would need to be glued on like the ones I used on mine that I will give away. not three pair just three so enough to do one pair of speakers with a spare. PM me your address and I will send them to you.
  2. This is my listing, I have sold about 30 of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/122347272301?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Just PM me your address and I will send you a pair.
  3. And speaking of NHT, I still have my mint 2.9's sitting over at my brother's house in the spare bedroom. That's another great pair of speakers which I plan to keep. I liked mine too but buying this house has sent me into "lighten the load" mode. Let me know if you need the anti diffraction foam for those 2.9's
  4. Nah sold them, the Sonys with the Sunfire sounds better anyway. And thanks on the new home, have been very stressed out over it.
  5. I have read a bunch on the internet about panel failure, so it happens. Probably just as much as conventional speaker driver failure. I went and listened to some older Martin Logan Aeon last night and was not impressed. There must have been something wrong with them. They just sounded dull and lifeless, vocals sounded muted and treble was nonexistent, so I passes. I did bring all my own gear to test them with so I know there were no issues there. If I ever get some I will shoot for newer models or new models. We are putting money down on a house today, it is new construction and will be completed in 6-7 months and will figure out what will work then.
  6. Indeed, this is still one of my fav.
  7. My local hi fi shop is a Martin Logan dealer and the owner told me that they had a run of some bad panels a few years ago. It has now been fixed but who knows if you are buying one of those defective panels used. Of course the ML he had in his shop sounded awesome but were 12 and 15k. My wife and I need to concentrate on buying a house or moving more than buying more audio gear at this time.
  8. For now I decided to do nothing, be content with what I have and just pay some bills. The Sony ES SS M7's finally beat the NHT 3,3 so I sold them. Not in bottom end mind you but when I add the Sunfire they smoke the 3.3's If I try anything it will probably be Magnepans though. The Martin Logans I want to get are sofa king high plus I hear the panels can be problematic. Thanks again!
  9. Those "try it in your own home" offers than Magnepan has, tempted me at times... Wretched place? Loveland, Co.. When you live in northern IL, Loveland is called vacation.. Lol.. Trade ya houses.. It used to be nice here but after we legalized pot everyone and their brother moved here and it has gone to pot. House prices are just too high and there are way too many people. It used to be nice when I first moved here 15 years ago. Don't see myself wanting to move to northern IL
  10. Well for right now I am going to back out of this endeavor. Just to much going on right now. I want to go hear some in the showroom again. I might not do anything and save the money to move away from this wretched place. Thanks for all those who participated in this thread.
  11. One thing I am wondering is how far out from the wall do you really have to get these to sound their best? 3-4-5 feet? I only have about 2-3 tops.
  12. Just like the title says either some gently used Martin Logan Vista or some new Magnepan 1.7 or .7. I know I will need a sub with either, my Sunfire fits the bill. I should be able to get these at least 2 feet of the wall and at least 4 feet to and side wall. One problem is that I only have 7.5 feet ceilings. What is a good price for the Vistas? Original owner has them in original boxes and says they are like new and just over 3 years old. He is asking $1500. I would be powering these with a Bryston 4B ST. Anyone have experience with either or both? After owning all kinds of box speakers I just want to try something different. I really liked my ALIII+, when we moved we needed the cash and I had to sell. This just an idea I am kicking around right now. Thanks
  13. OK I decided to just crack one open and have a look. Still fluid in them but you can definitely tell where it has leaked out. I will probably just get some new and replace it in both and not have to worry about it for 20 more years.
  14. Or using an air compressor.
  15. But certainly putting some stuff from Parts Express is better than dried up or nothing at all.
  16. I have a few speakers that are past the 20 year mark and was wondering about the ferrofluid in the tweeter. I know the stuff was designed to last 20-25 years but sure there are exceptions in that estimate. Surely it just does not go bad if its not used at all? I can buy new tweeters for some of my speakers but they are probably from the same 20+ year old stock mine came from. I am going to imagine it goes bad from abuse more than anything. Has anyone here replaced the fluid in their tweeters? if so what was the results? I have taken apart other 20+ year old tweeters to find an abundant amount of what appeared to be normal viscosity ferrofluid. But have also read how some got so dried up the tweeter would not even function. Thoughts?
  17. I brought these back out to the living room where I put everything back to its original position, I could not get anything to sound right the other way. I also got a new amp to run with these and they sound spectacular! The best system I have owned. The amp is a Bryston 4B ST, well Lexicon 225 which is a re branded Bryston 4B ST. Simply amazing sound. I will eventually try all my speakers with it. I am so glad I did not get rid of these NHT 3.3's. The B&K Reference 4420 sounded great but the sound stage, imaging and detail are just plain better with this amp.
  18. That's a good one!
  19. Welcome
  20. Wow, its the same size as your oven! nice
  21. http://www.parts-express.com/solstice-mltl-reference-tower-speaker-kit--300-708 I ordered two of these for my next project. I am not using the supplied Dayton caps. I ordered Claritycaps from Madisound and mills resistors. I will put them together and then decide on a finish. Probably not piano on the whole thing but definitely on the front. Then probably a cherry veneer stained black with a clear over it. I have also sold 6 sets of foam for the NHT 3.3 2.9 on ebay so far.
  22. Looks good, what kind of speakers are those? you might want to put some dampening on the side wall of that left speaker to cancel reflections.
