I received a pair of these flagship Polks (SDA SRS 1.2TL) from Travis a few years ago. I have finally gotten around to working on them and I have to say I am quite impressed with how they sound so far.

All eight tweeters were missing when I got them so I ordered the newer, improved version from Polk and installed them, using new gasket material to seal the cabinet properly. So far they sound pretty impressive. I actually turned the Signature TSW off because it isn't needed with these. They go LOOOOW !!!!!

The wife was certain they would not best the AL-III's but she has admitted that they sound a bit better. Not needing a sub is icing on the cake.

I am looking into refurbishing the crossovers and cabinets next, as well as building an isolation transformer interconnect so I can test drive the SDA aspect of the speakers. Right now I am running them as separate stereo only speakers - Travis didn't have the interconnect cable when I got them from him.

The dust caps were pressed in on two of the drivers. Thinking about how sticky Gorilla tape is, I took a small piece and used a screwdriver to press it onto the dust cap, carefully pressing all over the tape to make good contact. Then I gently pulled and they popped right out. eusa_dance.gif

Just thought I would share a quick note about the progress so far.

Special thanks to Travis - I have had these on my bucket list since 1990...

Cool fix on the dustcaps- and I always thought that stuff was for taping primates together! emsmile.gif

If they sound this good now, imagine how great they'll be when you get the SDA working!

Pics?

My wife liked the SDA 1.2tl (is that your flagship model?) > Silver ALS; I preferred Silver ALS>Polks. All good! Zumbini/Zack now has the Polks, Phil the ALS. Each of the speakers has been refurbished by the new owners. All good!

Great idea on the dust caps B-man.  Never had to fix any, but will keep that trick in my back pocket.

The 1.2's are absolute beasts, but they need some room to breathe. I also had the 2.3's and they were a LITTLE more forgiving of room size. The 3.1's that I have now are a better fit for my room, so I'm glad these monsters got into hands that will bring them back to glory!
