Carverpro 672 Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Picked up a set of Ev T52+ speakers to try them out. They are in mint shape and got them for dirt cheap. One of the voice coil leads on my cerwin vega 380 se woofers decided to throw in the towel after 5 years of punishment. I decided to throw in a set of 8 ohm eminence woofers for the meantime.   I decided for shits and giggles to run the ev’s  with the ‘ Frankenstein’s ‘ since the eminence woofers changed the impedance to 8 ohms instead of of 4 when normally running the Vegas. Ev’s are 8 ohms as well.    To be honest I wasn’t expecting much since they are totally different speakers. Especially since the ev’s have compression drivers. The ev’s are 101 db 1w1m. The Vegas were 102. But with the eminence woofers in there it’s probably still in the ball part.   Now one would expect this mixture to sound harsh and overall like crap. Especially, in a 12x30 room. In reality, it sounds incredible. crystal clear cranked up. No fatigue whatsoever. Vocals and guitars sound breathtaking. Extreme sound pressure with no subs. It literally sounds loud enough as if the band were playing for you. I have a funny feeling that the po-po is going to be pounding on my door tomorrow night lol 2 1

I've been playing with various Klipsch speakers for 20 years now and room acoustics and equipment matching are critical to getting a great experience very easy to get it wrong and have it sound bad or harsh but when you get it right it is very rewarding.   3
Carverpro 672 Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 What I was worried about was the mixing of the tweeters. One being a dome tweeter… the other being a compression driver. And the fact that the compression driver would be a lot more efficient than the other tweeter. I was expecting a harsh sound that throwed off imaging / soundstage and such. Nothing could be further than the truth: both style tweeters blend in together beautifully. The overall sound now is more robust and dynamic, and ungodly loud.   1

Didn't have compression drivers. You guys are dangerous.😀 Edited December 2, 2022 by Ar9Jim 1

When I originally had a pair of cerwin vega at15’s upstairs…I was paid a few visits by the po-po. The last time I was told that if they had to come back, they would boot my door in, take my stereo … and fine me heavily, since the whole block were complaining 😆. After that I moved the music down in the basement, and all was good. 1 1
denniswilson 250 Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 EV's are literally bullet proof. Built like tanks and can play loud. I used them in my DJ business in the 70s - 80s. 1

Carverpro 672 Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Now I really don’t know what to think about this. It’s kind of creepy since posting this topic about the fact that my neighbors are going to hate me 😆. I had a knock on my door just as I was about to start cranking the tunes.  Apparently a few years ago there were 5 neighbors around the block that were conspiring to kill me over my tunes which I cranked once per week. They wanted to run me off the road and try and kill me on my motorcycle 🤔😆😆. Two have since died. Why all of a sudden one of my neighbors has decided to let me in on this has me baffled. I’m just glad I wasn’t high when he told me..😆. I guess it might be time to add a 18 “ subwoofer into the mix lmao. Not sure whether I’m going to tell the girlfriend about this… people are fkn nuts man!! 1
Yamacarver 807 Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Maybe they've been monitoring your posts LOL It looks like tonight's the night and one of them got cold feet. 🤣 Looks like you need more amplifiers and if your door gets kicked just start a GoFundMe and I'll drop the first hundred because I recommended the pro speakers after all. 2
Carverpro 672 Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 Been averaging 110 decibels for the last 3 hours. Spl’s are awesome… and painful 😆 1 2
ChrisTFM35 668 Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 What are you listening to? I hope it's good music.Â
denniswilson 250 Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 looks like a Disco. All you need is a small bar there and charge admission. You can be the DJ 1 1
Carverpro 672 Posted December 23, 2022 Author Posted December 23, 2022 So the girlfriend said to me today “ I hope your not going to play your music tonight as loud as last weekend “…She asked if I did anything to my stereo because it’s ungodly loud outside now, compared to ‘ normal ‘.I didn’t tell her about the Ev pro audio additions. 😇 Apparently, when she came home last time.. she had a pounding headache after listening to it for a half hour being upstairs lol. She plans on staying away tonight until I pass out. Now, that’s a good woman. Must be why I’m still with her 12 years later..🤣 1 2
itchitch 4,529 Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 (edited) Interesting... no subs? It looks like those only go down to 55Hz ? Â You should buy some complimentary bass cabinets! Â Â I had a pair of passive EV SB122 that were magical and compact. Â Edited December 23, 2022 by itchitch

The bottom speakers( Frankenstein’s) which would normally go down to 28hz are going down to about 45 hz with the eminence drivers. One of the Vega woofers decided to give up on me… so I threw in the eminence woofers temporarily. Even so, bass response is still adequate. Going to be replacing the eminence woofers very soon with woofers that will play down to 28hz again. That will fatten up the bottom end nicely. 2
