tucahay 13 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hi everyone , my name is Rob from Pa. I recently picked up a Carver 900 receiver. I had read about the FM tuner capabilities and had to find out what it was all about. Hooked up to some Bose 301’s in my garage and the sound is warm and powerful with great separation and sound stage. The tuner, not so much. I hope to learn some tips and tricks on this site. Thanks for the add! 9
Zenith4me 1,563 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hello and welcome to TCS. I restored a 900 receiver and installed this kit from Circuits and Concepts on eBay. It may solve your issue. https://www.ebay.com/itm/220863094475?_skw=900&itmmeta=01KG7SB0VZ871M2SJ3A9Z8DRBS&hash=item336c775ecb:g:-owAAMXQya1Q8fsP 3

3M_Audio 2,263 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Welcome Rob. What setup are you using for an antenna?
Sk1Bum 12,718 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Hello Rob and welcome to thecarversite.com. Glad you found us! As Glenn suggested, the antenna is the first place I'd look. If that didn't work, I'd have to send it to someone. Good luck with your receiver!
Charlie 18,114 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Glad to see you Rob; jump in and get your feet wet...
tucahay 13 Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 I have a Winegard 6010 mounted outside my garage with probably 60 ft of coax. The local classic rock station is strong with excellent stereo separation. I just don’t get much past that. Weird side note, in my home I get WDVE Pittsburgh on a Trivoli model one clear as day. It’s using a $7 Amazon f plug 5 ft. wire antenna near a window. FMFool lists their transmitter at 85 miles away! 2

OK, in that case if it were mine I'd start through the FM test & alignment process from the service manual (page 4). I understand that requires some service gear that you may not have. If not, a visit (with a copy of the service manual) to a good stereo repair shop might be the best option for you to get it straightened out. Two good mail service options for Carver gear include Nelion Audio (https://nelionaudio.com) and Carver Audio Repair (https://carveraudiorepair.com). Both of these shops are very well versed in Carver & Sunfire gear. If you haven't already found it, the service manual for the 900 is available here - click on the 'Manuals and Specsheets' link at the top of any page to download. Edited February 1 by 3M_Audio 1
tucahay 13 Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Thanks for the tip, I now have both the owners and service manuals. I understand most of the tuning and adjustments, but some of it is above my level. CDs sound fantastic, so for now I’ll wait and check out service options. 1
