Welcome Curt, I know exactly what it feels like to happily pay someone else to do a job that I don't have a chance at getting right or just don't want to do it myself. For me, it is usually a plumber.

I'll be damned. That is the closest that I have ever got to this skit. It is interesting that the wording was changed. No doubt that there were different rehearsals of it, but this one I saw live (on TV that is). Thanks! I thought it was completely lost forever, and it is one of my favorites. I have a hundred others that I remember to be great as well.

I had the same experience with a John Belushi weekend update skit where he rambles on about Christmas, and all he wanted for Christmas was a pony, so on Christmas morning he opened up a package there was a sweater with a pony on it. He looked at them, they looked him, yelling started and a fight began, and then, somebody pulled out a shotgun! I memorized it but never once found reference to it in searches. Why?

Both of those reads were like an old memory. I didn't read much of anything but was reminded of everything way back then. Chrome tapes, cassette decks, what was the beginning for me of digital products coming on board, and oh yah, that Carver stuff, including the explanation of Magnetic Field Amplification! Man, that stuff was all hidden in my memory until I started rolling through the pages. I couldn't tell whether the drawing/schematic of the build it yourself SH was true to form as compared to the Carver, because as soon as somebody adds tape ins/outs, more switches stuff like that I tend to lose focus. It does appear however, that the same process was intended using phase reversal, a bit of delay, and cancellation, though I did not see cancellation in the drawing specifically. My bad though, like I said glancing at these circuits, I get lost pretty quick. Jeffs has got it down for his DIY unit, and one of the best aspects about it is the remote control for the SH effect switched in or out. That is a big deal. Now if someone would just provide a 'volume' knob to the whole thing that lets you choose the amount of SH I would be crazy about it.

Ah, the Quad era of audio. It could have had promise but as usual everyone made a different format. The beauty of Bob's design was doing this with only two speakers and no special recordings required except that they be stereo and two mics I think? Yes AJ, the H9-AV was a unique product, that is for sure. I only used it as two channel myself, but thought that it might have some merit over the C-9 in that you could adjust the matrix control. I only used it at about the 9 o'clock position though, because more resulted in too much of a good thing.

Glad that you found us. i have little experience with these units except refurbishing some of them. Note: I am no technician just a parts changer for the most part, but I can say this>> The C-1 was heads and shoulders above the C4000 in terms of internal quality and ease of working on. The C4000 that I worked on ended up as a shame to my eyes and had to be completed by someone else on this site. Others may not have the issued that I encountered so there is that. What I am leading up to is that I would prefer to work on a C-1 before anything else, and from what I gather here, most people have a preference for it in general.

I remember many years ago when moving a set of large JBL 4343 speakers, that I first put down a mattress, and then laid the speakers on their backs. Gluing the magnets won't do much good if you can't center the magnets first. I would think that a solid adhesive like JB Weld is the way to go when you get to it.

Those bulging caps look to be a warning shot to me. But if you go into this piece, it will benefit you to replace more than just these. Looks like someone already replaced the big caps, so that makes me wonder too. Now, it depends on what you are willing to do as far as the RCA jacks. Many of us here have replaced them something more sturdy. Personally, I use the RCA jacks from Manley Labs, but they can require enlarging the RCA jack holes to fit. Maybe not though. Anyway, it sounds like the jacks were already replaced, as they were able to be twisted? The jacks that Carver uses can't be twisted since they are connected directly to the circuit board. Properly tightened jack replacements won't easily twist either, but it sounds like yours weren't. Correction. I just viewed the photos, and it looks like these ARE original RCA jacks. What that means to me is that the jack lost connection right at the solder joint on the board, and that should inspected. If twisting the cable makes it work again, that is the problem.

In 5 minutes, I will be listening to the sounds of a table saw, sander and router. Sometimes they have rhythm.

Just ordered Pet Sounds by the Beach boys. Never heard it so this will be something new.
