Steve Johns, Extrasensory was released on October 16, 2026. "As a first-call sideman for many of New York’s finest, drummer Steve Johns has exemplified the complete musician behind the kit. His new recording, Extrasensory – his third as a leader and second for SteepleChase – finds Johns’ dual gifts as drummer and composer in full bloom." You can read the rest of the review here...

Kelly Green, Eat Your Greens was released on August 28, 2026. "Kelly Green boasts one of the most distinctive styles in modern jazz, combining unique approaches to both the piano and the voice to create a satisfying, pleasurable experience for the listener. Green approaches each song as if she has a story to tell, emphasizing lyricism as much as range, but with the melodic approach of a pianist." You can read the rest of the review here...

Christian McBride & Ursa Major, Points of Light was released on October 30, 2026. "Christian McBride’s Points of Light, recorded with Ursa Major, is an ambitious but uneven exploration of collective freedom. Its strongest performances reveal how jazz can renew itself through rhythmic invention, attentive interplay and the productive friction of distinct musical personalities." The Hunter/Parker duo description is intriguing — an eight-string guitar covering bass and treble while a drummer plays more like a percussionist than a timekeeper could easily sound cluttered, so it's interesting that it reads as a conventional trio date instead. The Latin-tinged tracks and the Brian Wilson interpretation are the details that make me want to listen. I'm not familiar with T.J. Kirk, so the funk reference in "The Spin Seekers" gives me something to look into alongside the album itself.
