I probably wasn't very clear. I have a pair of smaller Audio Engine powered speakers hooked up to me desktop computer that I think are excellent and based on that and the reviews (not sure about the the negative reviews you saw). although I haven't heard them I assume the flagship HD-6s are a worthy contender if you're looking for powered speakers. The fact that they are big sellers places like Sweetwater that cater to musicians and recording engineers underline the reviews that state that these have application as accurate and transparent small studio monitors. If you're looking fo that type of sound then by all means you should give them your consideration.

In that case you might also want to consider the Audio Engine HD-6 as well. I have a smaller pair for my desktop system and for the size and the $ they are excellent IMO. It's all up to what sounds best to you of course.

Welcome. I'm pretty new myself, but as stated this is an exceptional group of folks here in terms of knowledge and generousity. I don't know about the others but I have heard the Focal Shape 50's and I'm a Focal fan, they sound great and they are a popular choice for small "close field" studio monitors used by people who mix music and need accurate/transparent sound - BTW those are powered speakers so I'm not sure you would need or could use the Carver...

Friends, if you're a fan of great guitar playing and have never heard Mr. Tommy Emmanuel, check out one of the great acoustic players and THE master of harp harmonics: I'm a guitar player of many years and when I saw him play in a small club last year and I had to pick my jaw up off the ground at the end of the concert...

Good to know. Please let me know how it works with your FLAC files and the sound quality vs. your Oppo CD, I'd be very interested. Have you / could you triy an external disk drive connected directly rather than via Wi-Fi to access your audio files? Does the SW read all the tags and allow search, play by genre, random, display cover art etc. If I have more questions I'll get off me duff and read up on it. Thanks!
