New member, just thought I'd say hello!
BillWojo replied to mattsk8's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome to Carverville Matt. You should fit right in. I love your speaker builds, never mastered wood working myself. If I'm going to make chips, I like them sharp and shiny. LOL Take lot's of pics of your amp rebuilds for us, it will help someone else down the road. BillWojo -
I just picked up my Plats this afternoon and was listening to them at a moderate level when I read this thread. I checked my pair of M500T that I'm using in power steering mode and they were getting hot. I just shut the whole system down for now so I don't do any damage. Looks like were in the same boat. Zumbini, PX pricing was awesome although I never was in the military. I used to go out to the Fort Dix base with a friend of mine who was a Major in the Airforce. At the time I wasn't into stereo gear but stuff was heavily discounted. My friend George was a Carver salesman at the base when he purchased a lot of this gear. He was able to purchase the Amazings for even way less. After you were a salesman for Carver a certain period of time, you could purchase ONE piece of Carver gear for the factory cost. Of course George made the correct decision and purchased the most expensive piece they made. LOL He told me that he was going to buy the Silvers but when he was on the phone with Carver he decided right than and there to go for the Plats. He didn't want to spend the rest of his life wondering how much better sounding the Plats would have been. Even than it was a lot of money for a normal working guy. Back in the day you had to be a serious audio guy or be pretty loaded to buy this stuff. BillWojo

This should be a good thread. Where's the popcorn icon? BillWojo

Wow, lots of great selections. Yes I have the CD set that Mark did. And I have some Allison Krauss. Looks like I'll need to write a list of all these suggestions, I'll never keep all that in my head. Compwaco, I thank you again, can't wait to listen to them. It's tough to stay ahead of Kevin, seems he's everywhere. He has even put up signs at all the local thrift stores in the lot. "Parking for Jeeps Only" LOL BillWojo

Wow! Talk about an instant Karma. Compwaco, I sent you a PM. Guys like you make this site rock. Loner_t, I have been a Bonnie Raitt fan for years. I'll keep my eyes out for some Karise Eden. Anybody else have any good suggestions, keep them coming. It's kind of funny, once I make a mental note of an artist I'm looking for, if it's in a stack of CD's it will pop out on me as I scan them. I just get annoyed by the jokers that turn them sideways obscuring the labels. Thanks everybody. BillWojo

Was looking through the endless stacks of CD's at the GoodWill tonight and came across a Diana Krall CD called "The Girl in the Other Room". I remember someone on here recommending her music so I figured for a buck I would take a gamble. Well it paid off, not the usual style of music that I would buy but I'm really liking her. So now I know to look for more of her stuff. Listening as I type now. Still looking for an Eva Cassidy CD, another recommended one. Thought I had one a few months ago and when I opened the case it was empty! Bummer. LOL Thanks to this forum I have been turned on to a few artist I would have never tried. I really like Nora Jones, it's one of my system test CD's. I tend to favor female vocalist, one of my favorites is Leann Rimes. The CD "You Light Up My Life" is very good. The mastering could have been better at some points but over all I like her strong voice. Anyway, thank you all who have enlightened me to some new artist. BillWojo

I read about that a while back. Were not going anywhere soon with that thruster. If you read that article, it talks about trying to confirm that the amount of thrust measured wasn't an error in measurement. In other words, the amount of thrust produced has now been confirmed not to be a error in measurement. It's really tiny. Still interesting though. BillWojo

We can only hope that they were all "Sing Along with Mitch" albums. That would actually make me feel good. BillWojo

I think I would try replacing those cables first with higher quality fully shielded ones. Maybe DIY a pair of coax style cables, the better coax has double braided shielding and is made for long runs. I really think you have a cable problem. BillWojo

I'm with PDR, I like them both. It just depends on what I'm doing. If I want to submerse myself in music and pay attention to it, than it's time to fire up the turntable. If I'm doing other stuff that I'll throw a CD in or even listen to the radio. Just depends on my mood. I also agree that it must be produced well. Bad mastering or production sounds terrible on any format, well except Kev's fav, the 8 track. BillWojo

Welcome Ralphies, Like you I started out with a PM600 amp. Lot's of clean power, your going to love it. Neat idea using velcro to attach your components to the bottom of the shelves, leaves you plenty of room for other stuff on the top of the shelf. Why didn't I think of that. BillWojo

Welcome aboard Wileysdad, I recently picked up a pair of clean M500T amps myself. Running them in the power steering mode at the moment, they sure look great stacked up. This place will have you spending money on stuff you never knew you needed but it sounds to me like your there already. Hang out, lots of friendly helpful folks on here. BillWojo

Thanks guys, I really enjoy being part of this forum. Unlike most forums there is no fighting and bickering, seems that everyone gets along and is eager to help out. Even when I have asked dumb questions they were politely answered. I've learned so much and it's really cool being part of the Carver club. Makes me smile every time I turn on my stereo knowing I have something really special. BillWojo -
Welcome Sean, nice system you have there. Trying to build up to something like that myself. Hang around, this is a great bunch of folks with a wealth of knowledge. I'd say to watch out for OCCD but I think you already caught it. BillWojo

Sunfire true subwoofers VS. Earthquake Supernova
BillWojo replied to Ratamahatta's topic in Loudspeakers
What ever you do, don't put the Christmas tree on top of the sub, all your decorations will be on the floor. LOL BillWojo -
LVMAN, that's it. Looks to be in good condition. When I have a little time I'll play with it and see if I find any problems with my TT. Not bad for a buck. BillWojo
-
Was at the GW tonight and looked through the records for something interesting and came across this. It's a LP to check out your TT and stereo system. Has test for balance, left and right channel, volume reference, frequency run test, output balance, wow or flutter testing, phase check, rumble check and acoustical test. The other side of the album has 4 different recordings to play. It's put out by Command records, anyone ever try this on there TT? BillWojo
-
Can someone explain what 2nd, or 3rd or 4th order means? I think it has to do with the frequency but I haven't found a good explaination of it. Thanks BillWojo
-
Hey Rabbit, just read the specs on them, 4" of excursion! That's totally nuts. So I'll keep an eye out for them in the thrift stores. BillWojo
-
The scarey thing is, I do believe he has enough to pull it off. Plus all the other equipment to make every system happen. So Kevin, just let me know when you need help. 5.1 with all your CRM-2's should rock. I wanna hear DSOTM on SACD, LOUD! BillWojo
-
Don't worry Kevin, if I decide to unload the Def Techs, your first in line. Listening to the U2 War CD as I type. Picked it up at the GW today for a buck. Love that place. BillWojo
-
I reprogrammed the player to work in 2.1 mode.
-
If I play the SACD on my 2.1 system will it sound proper? I thought it would work on both srereo and 5.1. Don't tell me I pissed my money away. I have a Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi player. BillWojo
