  1. It does not look like when the noise happens that the amp losses power. Is that true? Maybe the next question is related or not related to the problem but I was curious. Can I assume that the Thermal switch is either mounted inside the ends of the transformer or somewhere very close? When I listen to that sound it brings back moments of similarities to the noises that I would experience when pressing the start button for a motor on a piece of lab equipment and the contacts were made.
  2. @wrf @Sk1Bum I emailed a complete copy of the service manual to Wayne. It has the two missing pages.
  3. I found, that when I downloaded the service manual that it was missing the pages numbered "5" and "6".
  4. I have no experience related to your situation and the following are questions to maybe help in diagnose of the problem. What ohm speakers are you using? Their max power rating? Speaker wire connections for loose strands touching each other. Length and gauge of the wire? The above may or may not have any connection, I just thought I would ask to eliminate items that are easier to look at.
  5. @SWBoss Welcome to the Carver Site. Searching in the manuals section of the site will give you a service manual for your 35x. It will have several pages of schematics and I think a BOM of parts. Good luck with the repair of your 35x.

  12. Welcome to the site! The extent of my help is limited to asking questions. Sorry. In addition to what @3M_Audio and @kve777 said, offered and suggested ....Does your unit have jumpers between the "Pre-Out and Main In" jacks? Did the unit work on its own before using the external tube preamp?
