C-4000 and C-1 service and upgrade
BobTFM35 replied to roryhamilton's topic in The Welcome Shop (Please read first)
Welcome to the Carver Site!! I'm kind of reading behind the lines, sounds like these units were maybe operating in a 120v location then they moved to the UK? On the C-1 have you taken a look inside? Some have a switch (SW15) near the power supply. Switch in question - Black item, far right center below white card on top of power supply. If the C-1 has this switch already installed then maybe at least the C-1 has a chance of being restored and upgraded by Nelion. The type of plug will also need to be looked at. What type do both have? US or European? As for the C-4000 I have no Idea if it has a similar switch. While not the most elegant of options it does sound like a Step-up transformer might be the first option? Maybe. When you get 5 or more likes please post some pictures. -

Welcome to the Carver Site!! Very nice group of Carver equipment. Looking forward to hearing about the repair on the CT units. Much talk on the site here about the CT-6 and its power button, either broken or missing and the possibility of 3D printing replacements if one had an original one to scan. I have kind of felt that maybe the power button on the CT-17 might be the same as the CT-6's. The CT-7 has a rocker type which looks to possibly be a better application for on/off duty if one possibly wanted to convert the CT-6/CT-17 to rocker style switch. I don't have anyone of the three CT's mentioned here so its easier said than done for a conversion. These are just thoughts but...... Again Welcome!!

Welcome to the Carver Site!! Nice selection of equipment that you have. For the Carver Sonic Holography generator , C-9, I would contact a member here @4krow . He may have something in the works as he restores and sells them. -

@Frankthehammer I don't think you will get a response from "Jeff CT-17" . If you check his profile you will see the last time he visited the site was Dec of 2023. You might do better in starting a new topic in the Preamp Repair sub forum for this. https://thecarversite.com/forum/63-preamp-repair/ Also, introduce yourself in The Welcome Shop. https://thecarversite.com/forum/142-the-welcome-shop-please-read-first/ @Sk1Bum @wrf @AndrewJohn -

Is there a way to update the file with the 450's belt size information?
-
First - Welcome to the Site!! If you were able to download the service manual I think you should be able to download that file. If not you might need 5 likes. This is essentially what is in that file. As you can see it does not have a size for the 450. Welcome to the Carver Site!! Is this the model you have? I would only do a complete restoration no matter the model. That is what I did for my Series Two version as represented below. The plan then was an upgrade of the turntable and a MC cartridge along with a SUT and tube phono preamp. As an estimation, plan on spending $450.00 (an estimate only) for the restoration services plus shipping both directions. An all in price might be in the $850.00 to $900.00 range depending on the shipping cost from your location to either Michigan or Washington state. Michigan https://nelionaudio.com/ Washington State https://carveraudiorepair.com/ I use it in the signal path for my TT and cassette tape deck. The results of your playback using the PL 1000 can depend on the amount of compression that was used in production. You can read more about this in the user manual along with other related items. Most of my records are new and any of my existing older versions got the Spin-Clean Record Washer treatment prior to their first use on the new system and put in a high-quality protective sleeve. The frequency of cleaning depends on whether they look or sound dirty. Older picture, but its at the lower right mounting position.

Welcome to the Carver site!! In addition to the schematics & parts list that @Half Life provided the link for, look at pages 6 and 7 of the AV505 Owner's Manual Carver AV-505 Amplifier Owners Manual for some interesting additional support information. I can only hope that the board and information shown in the pictures represents the boards that are found in your unit. Welcome!! -
Hi Betty and Welcome to the Carver Site!! I like your B&W CDM 9NT speakers!! What is their finish? Reach out to Nelion Audio - Authorized Carver Repair to see if they will look at your 772.

Looked at a pair, one was black and the other was tan, so I can see why you changed it back to tan. It just looked more pleasing and, as you said, correct.

The Pioneer CS-A700s kind of reminds me of my Coral speakers. Same time period and manufactured in Japan. The 700s are very nice and I agree with you about not experimenting with them. They are a classic. I find it interesting that they have a Service Manual for your speakers, https://www.manualslib.com/manual/4316915/Pioneer-Cs-A700.html?page=2#manual

Welcome to the Carver Site!! It sure looks like you are starting off with a nice selection of Carver equipment. I have bi-amped a set of Paradigm speakers first with a set of TFM35s then two Crimson 275s. Can't imagine trying to do a tri amp. What speakers will you be using? Wish you the best, and looking forward to hearing about your project.
