  1. Yesterday I got an email from elusivedisc.com (a small hole in the wall place about 50 miles from me that sell audiophile albums, CD's and high dollar equipment) advertising a new Capitol release on 5/26 of The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 180g 2LP. Per the site it's a Capitol release, second LP is unreleased studio takes, but in their picture of the discs both are black, where one of yours is white. Is this the one you have? Mark
  2. Retired in September 2008, 31.5 years at Delco Electronics / Delphi. Enjoying every minute of retirement. Mark
  3. I bought a new pair of DCM Time Window's back in the early 80's, loved the way they sounded in my small living room. About 10 years ago, I installed a set of speaker spikes on them and the improvement was impressive, especially low bass. My house is built on a slab, so the spikes couple the cabinet to the concrete. I have a K2 disc of ELP, and the lows at the end of Tark now shake your body. I'm guessing your improvement is from the spikes and raising the drivers closer to ear level. I agree you should secure the cabinets to the plates, should only help lows. Mark
  4. I have a small stereo cabinet so a single amp works better for me. The other reason is the TFM-25 does not use the magnetic field power supply like the -45 and The Receiver. And, my -45 seems to run cooler to the touch than the -25 (but I haven't measured the temp, just my impression).
  5. Welcome! I bought my first Carver (his first The Receiver) in the mid 80's to replace a similar power level Pioneer. Couldn't believe the difference in sound. The Receiver really made my Time Window's sing. There are many Carver amps that will work well for you. My first Carver separates were a C-7 tuner / preamp and a TFM-25 amp. Loved the C-7 with the remote control, and the TFM-25 sounded great. When the C-7 died I found this site and started researching for a replacement, and it looked like the C-1 was what I wanted; easy to upgrade and repair, no custom IC's that are no longer available, and with the BillD mod it's a world class preamp - I now have two C-1's, one needs some repair and I will be doing the BillD mod on both. For a tuner I found a version of the TX-11B (PSB-11) on ebay, it sounds great. When I started listening to more audiophile LP's and CD's, the TFM-25 was frequently pegging the meters. So I found a nice TFM-45 on ebay and it's awesome. Will be getting a recap on it soon, it should sound better than now and will likely last for my lifetime. If your speakers require lots of power (like 500 watts), the M1.0t or M500t can be upgraded to a MK II configuration that was developed by a site member ( MK II upgrade ). Enjoy the ride. Mark
  6. Finally had time to listen. First disappointment, the LP was in a cardboard sleeve (it went back in the jacket in a MOFI sleeve). It was very clean and quiet, no pops or ticks. Recording level seemed a bit low (had to crank up the input on my Sony CD recorder more than on MOFI LP's), and didn't have near the dynamic range of MOFI's. Maybe sounded a bit better than the companion CD. Not sure I'll buy any more when they start up their record club.
  7. I just ordered a new release from Columbia records, AC/DC Rock Or Bust on 180g LP + CD, about $25. If the sonic quality is worth the price I will consider their record club; will report how it sounds. Mark
  8. I have a spare CD burner and 5 disc player for when my main unit (Sony CD recorder) goes belly up. Just bought a few LP's online, most are remasters from original master tapes, one is a new release from Columbia. I'll report what I think of them, especially the Columbia release, since they are restarting their Columbia House club this year. Mark
  9. Ditto.
