  1. Wow, really nice work! Those speaker grill kits were a great option.
  2. Problems were resolved and the site resumed operation Friday, 01-19 2024. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding!
  3. Welcome aboard @Johnny_Law! Tell us of your other gear, musical tastes, etc. You should be able to add pics now too. As for the TFM, start a repair thread in the Amplifier section. Describe the symptoms, your capabilities and test gear, etc. That will be the best launch pad to your journey.
  4. Welcome to the site Brian! Les @Circuits & Concepts is a member here and a valuable source for parts. I’ve purchased several power supply kits from him a and have been very happy with them. I did a couple TFM-25 rebuilds a few years ago, chronicled here: There is a pic of all the caps I removed. And pics of the “upgrade” parts I.e. binding posts, etc. The pic of the removed caps just happens to show the values. When you dive into this, start a new thread. Add pics, chronicle your work, ask for help if needed. You’re in good company here… 😎
  5. Time to resurrect this thread for some of the newer arrivals here! My wife an I compiled a playlist titled “Taking The Ferrari Out” - as in “sometimes you gotta uncover that sports car, take it out of the garage and DRIVE it! This was inspired by United Home Audio’s room at AXPONA 2017, where they hosted an “after show” gathering. It was something to experience, watching 15 or more heads were bobbing to Led Zep cracked up on a $300,000 MBL system. So, with that, we kicked off our playlist with this…
  6. DIY turntable builds fascinate me! Love the magnetically aligned pivot bearing idea. Simple in concept, elegant in execution I think. Although the linear tracking arm setup is cool too. So, Jim, when are we gonna start development on the Bob Carver turntable? I have a direct drive plinth and platter to donate to the cause...😉
  7. A few of the Rockford neighbors gathered for a day in late July, 2023….
  8. I have a 16” x 16” concrete paver I have used under a turntable when all I had was a wire rack system at the time. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Square-Gray-Concrete-Patio-Stone-Common-16-in-x-16-in-Actual-16-in-x-16-in/3034746 Cheap, readily available and effective. Just wrap it with some wood of your choice…😎
  9. Reading about Bob’s initial introduction of his Sonic Holography system is what cemented his name in my mind. Add to that the Carver Amp Challenges and I was further intrigued. One day, a friend replaced his unimpressive receiver with a pair of PL components. I was quite impressed! Eventually, I finally bought my c-1 and m1.0t. The hook was set. Oh, and I stumbled upon this article this morning. Nelson Pass goes a long way into explaining feedback and it’s effects on the signal, measurable distortions and sound quality. Pretty interesting read over coffee…. https://www.passlabs.com/technical_article/audio-distortion-and-feedback/
  10. One thing the military teaches (or at least, taught) is this: Praise in public, criticize in private. The “mainstream” audio press follows this rule. They have to, their lives depend on it. To explain - when I have read negative comments made regarding a product, they include mention of the reviewer reaching out to the manufacturer for clarification and/or even another copy of the product to test. They give the product’s manufacturer an opportunity to rectify the reviewer’s negative findings. This is fair. It is also rather rare in my experience, but it happens and is dealt with fairly. ASR (and others) don’t appear to understand this. At least I have seen no evidence of it in my admittedly small exposure to them. Because they do not (seem to) contact anyone for clarification, their integrity is compromised in my eyes. I would also consider their followers’ integrity compromised as well. This seems to be common everywhere on the internet. Folks being incognito behind a false persona makes it easy to lash out with little to no consequence. Maybe it strokes their ego. Maybe they are completely unaware. But they do leave their mark on someone somewhere. In conclusion, I really do enjoy the sound of the current Carver products. I’ve had the fortune to spend many hours listening to each of them. No matter what the SINAD says….😎
  11. A lot of excitement surrounding the release of Bob’s latest creation. And with good reason! It needs to be stated, though, that the prototype has had the shit kicked out of it since it’s debut at AXPONA last April. We ran the snot out of it for 3 days, after arriving still warm from Bob’s testing. Its been Jim’s daily driver at The Factory ever since (I believe). We ran the snot out of again a few weeks ago at The Factory, doing some experimentations with different sources and a few different speaker configurations. Damn, those Maggie’s danced beautifully with such a strong partner! All without so much as a whimper! When my disposable income account recovers, the RAM285 is on my short list of things to acquire… ….sadly that may take a while though……
  12. Looking good Jim! 👍👍 Damn, the amp is entombed in foam - should survive even the most disconnected handler! Historic moments in the making this week….
  13. This is terrific news, Jim. Congratulations! 👍👍 There are soon to be some very happy (and lucky) recipients of Bob’s latest creations!
  14. Commonly referred to as OCCD Obsessive Carver Collecting Disorder There is no known cure, the best one can hope for is managing it… 😎
  15. Hi Shannon and welcome! Damn, a kindred spirit - I can't part with anything either! Share your journey - step and missteps along the way. Before long you can post some pics. We all love gear pics! -Lee-
  16. I’ve been pondering this question lately, and remembered that my original Carver gear is the ONLY gear I ever bought without listening to it first! (A C-1 and a m1.0t.) Honestly, I bought them purely on Bob’s reputation - based in numerous articles I’d read up to that time. And have never regretted it. Now, let me back up to when I cut my teeth in this hobby - during the “Receiver Wars” of the late ‘70s. In the barracks at NAS Barbers Point, HI, there were numerous systems scattered through many of the rooms. One receiver in particular that caught me ear was the 1977 Sansui 9090db. Beautiful piece of gear, wonderful sound. Specifications matching most of its’ competitors- 120 watts/channel, at .05% THD iirc. By the time I was selected to go overseas, where I would shop for my dream system, a few things had changed. Sansui came out with the ‘G’ series of receivers, boasting a frequency response of 0 (DC) to 50 kHz. Increased power outputs and the top two models were built on two chassis that could be separated to fit on smaller shelves. Damn impressive pieces of kit, with their new, bright silver and gold face plates, large volume control and tuning knobs, etc. huge ‘wow’ factor. My beloved 9090db was no longer available. So I checked out Sansui’s latest offerings. I found them to be lifeless, sterile sounding. And I was only 19 at the time. (I acquired one many years later and still found the same to be true. No soul to be found here.) As my search continued, I fell in love with and bought a Kenwood Model Eleven III which I still have. All this is a typically long winded way to say ya GOTTA LISTEN! Those who know, know. And those who don’t know, will learn. If they are lucky…
  17. Interesting conversation! Nearly exclusively, I stream via Tidal when I want to sit down to listen. My vinyl playback rig needs some tweaking yet to get it dialed in. Now, some of you toss in the Carver 390t and 490t into the mix as the favored playback medium. Damn! Currently, I have NO CD playback gear, save for a near 30 year old Yamaha carousel that lost a shootout between it and my iPad. I have an old dresser full of CDs…. And I’ve been so good about controlling my OCCD. I feel a relapse coming on strong! 😳
  18. All of this is great news Jim! 👍👍 As for my preferences, I would like a flat top and a flat bottom. Keeping it stackable. Of course, in my case, I can just make another shelf if needed…. 😁
  19. Good luck with the meeting! Sounds like you may become rather busy if it goes well. Don’t be too put off by the hush. Dialog requires two participants. It’s a great community here. Feel free to join in conversations, or start your own (again).😎 Hell, I joined (holy crap!) 14 years ago, looking for info on my Carver preamp and power amp. They haven’t kicked me out or chased me away yet…. By the way, is your Camaro named Christine?
  20. Welcome to the site @Larry2018! Links to areas are across the top under the header. Click Manuals and Specsheets. Scroll down to the Audio-Theater section. You will find an owners manual and a schematics manual for the AV-64. Good luck on the repair! Feel free to share your experience and/or ask questions.
  21. Hey hauntedz28 It happens I have a m1.0t on my bench, preparing a restoration and mods to mkII. Im doing the mods because, well, I have the parts on hand. Otherwise I would just be doing a recap. Here’s my cap list, made by physically checking each one… Each item with a green blob I have on hand. The last 4 are in the power supply. The cost and questionable availability of the 6800uf caps were such that I found it cheaper and easier to order an pre-stuffed adapter assembly from Circuits and Concepts. Les is a member here and has an EBay store. I have one of these assemblies in another m1.0t I reworked 5 or 6 years ago. That amp has been in the main rig since completion and has been flawless. By the way, the m1.0t came in two flavors - inverting and non-inverting. This amp is an ‘non-inverting’ amp, which has the stereo/mono switch on the back. I’m not sure if there are differences in cap values between the two. Hopefully this will help.
  22. Wow, Purdy! Very nice build, well done! 👍👍
  23. Good morning Glenn and welcome aboard! Interesting product line you have. Looks like an excellent solution to a niche market problem. 👍👍 I’m a bit of an auto sound nut also. I just completed recapping my collection of A/D/S amps I pulled from my long-time service Odyssey. Pour another cup of coffee and look around. We’re everything Carver - from Phase Linear to the newest creations that will hit the market within a few weeks!
  24. Welcome aboard Gary! I see you are already infected with OCCD - Obsessive Carver Collecting Disorder. You are in stage one - anger (pissed off😉) Next comes denial - no, I really NEED more gear…. Finally comes acceptance. Yep, I got more gear than rooms to equip, etc. It’s okay. Somewhere within the wall of the site is a thread - something on the order of “how many amps do you have”. You are amongst friends here.😎 Enjoy the ride! oh, and beware the ‘enablers’….
