+1 Really enjoy watching Carter Bruford. Another unsung hero is Alex VanHalen.

My home office. One way to fill a wall...

Ha Ha! If only it didn't break during removal. Would probably be some kind of Satanic message tho... By the way, played the other side while, well, wasting time. Side 2 is considerably noisier.

Okay, 14 hours later: Lots of air bubbles. Not too worried, just proof of concept. Peeled off okay, the bottom area not completely done, but didn't want the rest to get too brittle. Came off in two pieces, but cleanly. Close-up thru magnifying glass. Doesn't really show here, but fingerprints are still there. By this point I'm nearly through the album side. It played through without any problems. Seems relatively clean in spite of numerous scratches. I don't have any real impression of improvement because I didn't listen to the record before cleaning. So, I guess this all means you can clean a record using wood glue (I use Titebond II also). How effective it is I'm not sure. Whether or not you want to is another matter. I have a couple prized records I would love to clean, but I don't think I would use this method.

Couldn't add a photo via the ipad...

Yep, seems thicker is better. Peeled off most of the thicker areas last night. They came off okay, of course it left the areas where the glue was thinner and more fully cured. Kinda made a mess of it. Reloaded again this morning. We'll see what we have this evening...
-
My thought was to catch it before it's fully cured, while it's still flexible. I'm hoping to peel it off tonight but I'll probably have to leave it until morning. I tried to get the thin area removed after it dried but that wasn't going well. It will flake off of the lead-in area but kinda has a grip on the grooves. More to come tomorrow...
-
Good one! I'm not dead, er dry yet... Peeled the outer layer, still liquid underneath. still more time...
-
Okay guys, I decided to do some experimenting... First, The Victim: Don't be disturbed, I have another copy A close-up: Nicely coated (I hope)... I'll be back shortly after it has dried some...
-
I've read about this and have seen pictures. I haven't tried it yet, but I know wood glue pulls everything out of my fingerprints if I remove it just before it's completely cured.

Good morning all. My brother visited during the Christmas break and we were talking about reviving a pair of Phase Linear P-530 speakers he has. The woofer surrounds dry-rotted years ago and he replaced the woofers with some random crap as he didn't know any better at the time. I know these are really Pioneer speakers re-badged, but I'm looking for sensitivity specs and probably crossover points as well so I can find a suitable substitute for him. I've not had much luck in Google land, hoping you folks might be able to help. Thanks in advance! -Lee-

Jimmy Buffett A Pirate Looks at Forty Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call, Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall. You've seen it all, You've seen it all. Watched the men who rode you, Switch from sails to steam. And in your belly you hold the treasure That few have ever seen, Most of them dreams, Most of them dreams. Yes, I am a pirate Two hundred years too late. The cannons don't thunder there's nothin' to plunder I'm an over forty victim of fate; arriving too late Arriving too late. I've done a bit of smugglin' I've run my share of grass. I made enough money to buy Miami, But I pissed it away so fast, Never meant to last, Never meant to last. I have been drunk now for over two weeks, I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks, but I've got to stop wishin', got to go fishin' I'm down to rock bottom again. Just a few friends, Just a few friends. I go for younger women, Lived with several awhile, And though I ran away, They'll come back one day. And still I can manage a smile It just takes awhile, just takes awhile. Mother mother ocean, after all these years I've found My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown.

I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-D40fs stereophones I've had for years. Love 'em, a bit bass heavy as they were designed with drummers in mind. Price is under $100,00 My wife recently won a pair of Grado's, model iGrado. I was very impressed with the sound quality. Can be had for around $50.00. I don't do 'phones often, and don't have experience with the more expensive sets.

Terrific lesson Nahash! I, too am a newbie to this stuff. But my experience so far is this: A year or so ago, I recapped the x-overs in a pair of KLH Model 5's for a friend. We used Dayton Audio Caps to keep costs down. The results were amazing. Shortly thereafter I re-capped my Klipsch KG-4 crossovers with Sonicaps. They opened up the high end to a degree I would have never guessed. -
Nice setup bored184! BTW, there's no cure for OCCD, just treat the symptoms and you'll be just fine I thought I was looking at a pic of my own C-1 with the Discwasher box sitting on top.

Benificiary of Many Classic Blues CD's
xavionics replied to dennismiller55's topic in Physical digital
Great stuff! I was able to pull a couple on line via MOG for a taste. I received most of my grandmothers records after I moved to WI. Not a large collection. Includes a very complete Neil Diamond collection, Harry Nillsson's Son of Schmillsson album , and a double record of my High School Chorus concerts from 1975. -
Well, finally an update. Sort of Wanted to share the date of the woofer...not too clear in the pic, but it reads Jun 22 1969 Researched and orderred what I thought were the correct caps. Wrong. Everything I found stated 4.0 mf, what I found were 8.0 mf with a 3 ohm resistor in series with the tweeter. Hmm, back to Parts Express again.

Good evening and Happy Friday the 13th Picked up a pair of old KLH Model 22a's this evening. $29.95. I asked myself if I really need another project, my wife suggested "It's only 30 bucks, why not?" I rebuilt a pair of x-overs a while back on some Model 5's which were very impressive. Why not indeed! Popped the grills, all looks okay. Paid the man and took them home. Stood 'em on the Klipsch's, hooked up the Carver and fired up Pandora on the Sonus. Damn impressive! 8" 2-way, sealed enclosure. I'll probably open them up and freshen the x-overs sooner rather than later and use these in my office. Better bottom than my 6 1/2" DIY A/D/S's.
-
Sorry it took so long guys.... I see this was before the last wire was connected from the midrange contour switch on the left crossover.
-
I just had to share this experience I had today with you all... A coworker recently picked up a pair of 1973 KLH Model 5 speakers. 12" woofer, 2 mids and one cone tweeter. Cosmetically in real nice shape. Adjustment switches for mid and tweet output (low, norm, high for each). We selected Dayton's Audio Caps to keep costs down. With 7 caps per crossover and new/better posts, the total was around $100.00. It took a few hours to get the caps all mounted and hooked up. All the old caps were out of spec by at least 20%. I wasn't expecting to be impressed by 40+ year old speakers with all paper cones, but I was quite surprised! Connected them to my M-1.0t and handed him the Sonos control. Very nice! Way more bottom than I would have guessed. Clean mids, highs were there and not over bearing. We experimented with the mid and tweet controls, but ended up leaving them in the 'norm' position. With the recap, he has about $350 into the pair. Sweet deal!

Styx "Kilroy Was here" comes to mind. Dennis, you should have listened to the guys... Really, Mister Roboto?
