Welcome home Jim! I'm glad you guys had a great vacation. I can't wait to chat with you guys again. I'm thrilled to hear you are doing well. As for the box project, thanks for your efforts. No hurries here, I hope I won't need them anytime soon. Again, welcome back! See ya 'round the neighborhood...
  7. Some of my go-to recordings and why. Some are well recognized, some aren't Dire Straits - On Every Street (CD or streamed) Fade to Black: For detail and male vocal Queen - Queen II Deluxe Edition (streamed from Beats) What A Fool I've Been (BBC Session July 1973, Remix 2011) Just to see what this system can do. This is one of those songs that begs for the volume to be turned to eleven. Leon Russell - Leon Russell (streamed) Most any song, just because they seem raw with little production. Junior Mance - Junior Mance Special (streamed) Whisper Not - Grand piano dynamics, attack, and detail This had got to be the best sounding grand piano I've ever heard in my living room. So many others, it just depends on the mood at the time
  8. Peter Gabriel Live Blood Recorded in London 2011
  9. Another frquently listened to: We streamed this one last weekend from Oshkosh to Kentucky, when the phone battery died... Play Station Like this station Share B.B. 11. Thanks for the link Doc! I've been reading and my mind is already wandering.
  12. There I was, having breakfast Sunday looking through Craigslist for random things I don't need. Then, there they were. Maggie MG-IIa. Tweeters re-done. A tear on the rear of one of the socks. $200.00 Still has the original boxes! I've listened to and liked Maggies, never had a pair of my own. I do some research, price is reasonable. Sound is regarded as a bit dull by most it seems. Hmmm. 2 C-notes. I could re-sell if not satisfied. I text the owner, he replies immediately they are still available. Beaver Dam, WI, about 40 minutes from home. Well, its supposed to rain later, lets take a drive while the sun's shining... Poor guy is losing his man-cave to his daughter. Lost his job and is shedding some non-essentials. (I briefly rethink my occasional frustrations with my job) They're being driven by an NAD integrated amp. They sound warm, rich, comfortable. maybe a bit dull. But no buzzing. Everything is working fine. I hand him 10 $20's, we shake hands and load them into my van. Into my basement they go, replacing a pair of ADS L-710s. They sound pretty good. Clean, full, not very bright but will be good for background when doing other activities down there. But then the source is my i-Pad headphone out jack. No buzzing, even when driven with all my little cube has to offer. I may just keep these. They need a little TLC, the socks are not fully straight, etc. The slats are not installed but I do have them if I decide to...
  13. This pic is from last November when I finished the equipment rack. There is a C-1 with a m1.0t both bought new in '89. The lower amp is a m200t (since relocated) The speakers are two pair of KG-4's I melded into what I call KG-16's. The horns were upgraded with Crite's titanium diaphrams. These are bi-amped with a m1.5t driving all the woofers and the m1.0t driving the horns.
  14. When I was in high school, I was involved in our Chorus as a Tenor/Baritone. One event we performed was a chorale competition at another school where a half dozen or so schools go to show off their chops. We warmed up performing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. In a library. I was near the middle of our group, completely immersed in the sounds. Live, loud, zero distortion vocals in a room that was pretty dead acoustically. It was truly spine-tingling! It is that "chill running up and down the spine" sensation I'm still chasing. I have experienced it: First in a stereo store mid-1980's with a McIntosh component rack driving a set of Klipschorns. There have been several others. Occasionally, with the right source material, my KG-16's will do it too.
