Thanks to AndrewJohn, I have a soldering iron on the way! So, I am going to attempt my first crossover repair. It is the extremely advanced and complicated Polk Audio Monitor 5a crossover. 2 caps and 2 resistors per crossover. That's right gents, I am a risk taker!

I'm not going to spend a fortune on these. I'm not a big believer in the extra money for TOTL caps and resistors. I figure any new. in spec caps HAVE to be better than the 25 year old caps that are in there, right?

All caps and resistors are not created equal. While you don't want to go crazy on your first run at it at least get the ones that are specs, at 1% so you wont have a lot of variance.

1%?  Most of the Poly caps I have looked at were 3-5% and the Electrolytic were 6%

Get a couple of them then and take some measurements and put in the best matched pairs. Many sellers will have a set of matched pairs for just this type of project. One example.

I doubt you'd hear a mere 5% difference. Many power resistors have a 10% tolerance anyhow.

If it bugs you, a 2.7 in series with a 3.3 would get you 6.0, a little closer. And each could be half the wattage of the original 6.2 . Kinda hard to know which way to err unless you knew how the designer decided on the original value.
