Don Hopkirk 11 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Hi all newbie from Yosemite National Park (South entrance). I am an aerospace machinist (CNC & Manual) I make parts for the current rockets going to Mars and the moon. Not space X, for Nasa, Lockheed, JPL etc. Just had a Carver TFM-35 restored by Nelion Audio. Using it with a Denon AV receiver, Heathkit AP1800 preamp, the TFM-35 amplifier. Through Polk Audio LS-70's. I have two Klipsch La Scalas I plan to try out just havent hooked them up yet. Hope to learn a bit from this site. Thanks for having me. Don H. 10 1
Daddyjt 9,805 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Ah, Polk LS70s - my first “real” pair of speakers, bought new from Broadway Music in downtown SLC about 1995. They were in my first home theater (such as it was), and then when they were displaced by Klipsch RF7s, they served in my family room system until about 2018. I just recently sold them to a kid on the local classifieds for $100. They were a little rough cosmetically, but still sound great - he was thrilled, as he’s starting a family and tight on money. He’s actually texted me a few times, saying how much he loves them. welcome to the site!
Half Life 975 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Welcome from VA! Enjoy your stay! Nice system you have there.
Kurt 3,110 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Welcome to the Carver Site! You have some great gear! And, it's nice to have a machinist on board... you never know what questions will come up on this site. Your skills will come in handy, I'm sure :). Show us some pics of the stuff you have in space!! That's very cool!
3M_Audio 2,227 Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 Welcome! I remember the AP1800. If I recall correctly, it had 3 phono inputs and switchable capacitance and sensitivity. A capable and nice unit.
Community Admin AndrewJohn 10,700 Posted September 9, 2025 Community Admin Posted September 9, 2025 Welcome @Don Hopkirk, so glad you found The Carver Site. That is a nice set-up..., we can't wait to see pictures of your gear. We love pictures. And, now, I'm visualizing a picture of your gear, in front of a window, looking out at Half Dome, or something like that at Yosemite 😉 Again, welcome, and glad you are here! Oh, and love that career. There are some old timers here that come from that industry..., and if we are lucky, Jim Clark ( @Ar9Jim ) will pop back in,..., he's a storied member here..., and, well, he's now back in the Aerospace industry making parts for those companies you mentioned.
Brian K. Totten 385 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Welcome, Welcome, from San Antonio - 200 miles from JSC, Houston!
