pindrop 330 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 You made those look so nice it caused me to go in search of a pair on my TampaFl Craigs list. There just happens to be a nice looking pair (other than a nick on the front left corner) that have the black (Peerless?) tweeter. Are they the ones to have as my ears don't get along real well with aluminum domes. They are asking $140, is that a good deal or should I offer less? pindrop

The Peerless are the most desirable of the tweeters in the vintage monitors, the 2000's tend to be a little shrill and the 1000's were the worst of the bunch. If he won't come down, $140 is reasonable.
trav0810 586 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Im up to my neck with Daddytj so as soon as I am done I will seek a C11 too The M500(t) is a very crisp clean sound I am very eager to see how the MK-2 stacks up I love the monitor 10's. A great pair of speakers. I had a pair matched with an M500t and they were a great match. The guy I sold them to bought a 500 MKII and ran them for a whiel. Pretrty nice as well, but that MKII would LOVE a little more speaker. If you really enjoy the 10's, keep your eyes open for a pair of RTA's. They are a great match with a 500t MKII.
pindrop 330 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Thanks, I asked just to find out how much less to offer. U nless they say firm I'd never just hand over the asking price. I 've had a pair of Paradigm Reference 20's since new and they're true but still a touch bright for my ears on some recordings. pindrop
RonW. 41 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Does these speakers have the umbilical cord??? I was sold a pair by an not so cool sales guy and they were not compatibale with my M500t.... Just curious. RonW.
zumbini 6,147 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Does these speakers have the umbilical cord??? I'm pretty sure only the SDA-series speakers use the interconnecting cable and require a common ground amp.

I'm pretty sure only the SDA-series speakers use the interconnecting cable and require a common ground amp. Correct. And even with some of the SDA's you can get a special cable (Dreadnaut) that allows you to use an amp that is not common ground.

pindrop 330 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 That's where I was heading and if I escape with them in the car for $120 I can go
CT-Seven 764 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Keep an eye out in the tweeter, it has the two lines coming down at an angle that is the good tweeter the other has the line horizontal, these are good but not as good as the original run 1

I was sold a pair by an not so cool sales guy and they were not compatibale with my M500t.... Just curious. RonW. The 10's and the M500t go hand in hand with each other the non t M500 is a whole different story I did a side by side in 2009/10 http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=2629
pindrop 330 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 From what I can barely see, it looks like a line from top to bottom? I think I'm going to pass on these for now as my room is looking like a Paradigm/Definitive Tech sales room with 2 complete theater systems and a brand new pair of GoldenEar Triton 7's thrown in for good measure on the 2 channel. My brides not real happy with me Time to sell off a few but when I dooo..... They'll all go well with my new m1.0t mkll opt.002 Hashy is working on! Oooh yeah
CT-Seven 764 Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Here are the legs for my speaker stands with the 3 degree incline All I have to do is sand, stain attach the lower base and the metal top and my stands are done!
CT-Seven 764 Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Baby MKII and Mrs. CT-Seven pulling paint duty Im going to put one more coat before assembly
helicopter pilot doug 110 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Family projects are the best! Those Monitor 10A's are IMHO one of the best speakers Polk ever made. I have a set of 10A's in my shop powered by a TFM-55 and C-11 pre. Wonderful sound from them. I've used a TFM-45 with them also.
kve777 6,888 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Nice! I've had several pairs of Monitor 10's. I like them with MXR-130/150's too! It's a great combo. Just picked up a pair of Monitor 7B's on Saturday at the local Flea Market. Only twenty bucks! They have the angled-lead tweeters(Peerless type). I might copy those stands, but a bit taller for the 7's.
tlkohler 106 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Nice work. Simple and clean - looks great. So how's everything sound?
pindrop 330 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Wow, those came out great looking. What degree did you end up cutting them at. Will you be using BlueTack on all 4 corners to couple them to the stands?
