  1. Welcome Brian, I think it is safe to say that you will be hard pressed to find audio snobbery here, just a group passionate about good sound and how to achieve it. Enjoy the info and the journey. PhilDent
  2. Nice systems. I wish I could sport speakers that large. Welcome
  3. "So many things I would do differently but it has been a fun road to travel." I built a house and I had the exact same feeling. Could you share some of the things that you would have changed? The theater looks great. PhilDent
  4. Welcome! With a collection like that you're definitely among friends.
  5. The Carver Journey Continues! After much research on this site I decided that one day I would upgrade my A400x to an M500t Mkii. I thought that this would be a purchase way off in the future, but it came about that DaddyJT had one that he was willing to sell. It was a price I could not pass up. Now, just after a few months after my first Carver purchase, I've cobbled together a Carver system that sounds better than I could have ever imagined: C1 Preamp (BillD mod by DaddyJT) M500t mkii (also by Daddy JT) and Elac uni-fi b5 speakers. Source is typically hi res or redbook files through an SMSL M8 DAC. I'm loving the sound of the new amp and I absolutely love the big analog meters illuminated with the blue LEDs. Loving the music that OCCD and the Carver community has provided PhilDent
  6. Tidal by Fiona Apple
  7. OldTexasDog, Thanks for the recommendation. I'll dig that one out of the collection. My go to system tester used to be Tower of Power - Diggin' on James Brown. The horns really reveal and test what a system can do. I remember my buddy just bought a brand new high end Denon AVR and decided to test it out with that song. As soon as the wall of horns slammed in, the Denon tucked its tail and went into overload. Needless to say that he was very disappointed and headed back to where he bought it.
  8. Aslan7, does that SACD have a stereo mixdown? Or is it 5.1?
  9. Good to hear that you enjoyed it. I struggle daily with traffic and the mass of people that Los Angeles so selflessly provides me, that when it's leisure time I tend to spend it with a little more elbow room. The wifey says that I suffer from social anxiety. I tell her that, given the option, I prefer not to be axxholes and elbows with a throng of unknown souls. That being said, let me know when you're back in the L.A. area, perhaps I can extend you some Yankee hospitality. PhilDent.
  10. "I been to LA, USA-off and on for the last 20 years and love California.Got lots of friends and family out there and usually go to The Hollywood Bowl for concerts-Last one I went to was Steely Dan and Elvis Costello" Joey, I live in the LA area and I considered going to this concert, but I thought that I'd be disappointed by Steely Dan's live sound (which I believe is the reason they become primarily a studio band). Their albums sound so good, I would be stunned if they could get anywhere close to it live. best PhilDent
  11. Welcome to the party and enjoy your Carver journey! I'm curious about how you plan on powering your Carver gear. Did they make 220 models or do you have to use some power transformer to knock it down to 120? PhilDent
  12. Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to be if you love great sound.
  13. Oldtexasdog, how much do these high end pressings run? I wanted to buy the self titled Rage Against the Machine remaster from Audio Fidelity. I had the original CD, but I believed the hype and decided that I'd pony up $30 for the remaster. When I went to check out on the site they wanted another $10 for shipping and I said forget it. $40 was too much to pay for something I already had a version of.
  14. Back in the early 90's we used to record music on an old Teac 8 channel analog machine. We used to have to do submixes on to DAT then re-record them back onto the analog tape in order to free up more tracks for overdubs of guitars and vocals. It was a time consuming process and you had to make sure your submix was perfect because there was no going back since with a limited budget we would end up recording over the original recordings once we mixed it down. I think both analog and digital have their pros and cons.
  15. I'll trade my "like new" Birkenstocks for the M500 ?
  16. What a score. I highly recommend a BillD mod. There are several techs here that can get this done for you. Well worth the money.
  17. Didn't make it out there today...too many obligations and too small of a window of time to make it worthwhile. I'm still holding onto a glimmer of hope that I might make it out there on Sunday.
  18. I don't know if there are many/any forum members in the SoCal area. I'm interested in seeing Mark Waldrep from AIX audio. He is a guy who is dedicated to hi fidelity and surround and is willing to battle the snake oil salesman that is rife in the audiophile industry.
  19. I know this is last minute, but is anyone going to the LA Audio Show tomorrow? I got the day off and I'm considering making a trip out there. Probably a bad idea, knowing that I won't come back any richer.
