also what kind of groove lube or groove glide would be good to use. I'm sure they aren't talking about ky jelly LOL 8 Secrets to Protecting Your Record Collection Clean Your Records: Use a good quality cleaning system and get all the gunk and grit out of the grooves! Replace The Inner Sleeves: Replacing the original sleeves with a good anti-static sleeve will help prevent scuffs, scratches, and help keep the static down. Use a Carbon Fiber Brush Before Every Play: Keep your records clean and dust free. Clean Your Stylus Before Each Play: Use a stylus brush or Zerodust to keep the stylus clean before you drop it in the grooves!. Use a Record Treatment: Using a record treatment like Gruv-Glide, Last, or Groove Lube will reduce wear and make your records sound better. Put Records Away After Playing: Leaving your vinyl lying around will increase the chances of accidental damage and allow them to collect dust! Store Your Records Properly: Records need to be kept upright, not flat. Avoid storing in temperature extremes! This will protect against warps and ringwear. Keep your record jackets in good shape! Protect Your Jackets with Outer Sleeves: Outer Sleeves will help protect against UV damage and ringwear.

The link lists many sleeves, which paticular one? was thinking of these for outer album covers http://www.ebay.com/itm/380785068106?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 and inner covers http://www.ebay.com/itm/111217041624?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 seem expensive but if it protects it it may be worth it. I just wanted to see what others were using. Thanks for the input

What is a good quality to use for record sleeves? I have seen rice paper, 3 mil plastic sleeves, combination of acid free paper and vinyl plastic. Also same with outer sleeve for record covers. What is all of your personal preferences?

understand the desire to protect them from overdrive, but you give up something when you do it, clarity for one. It's best just not to over drive them to my understanding.

Snow, sorry bruther you were offended by my dislike for Sony, it's my personal prefference about Sony. Those do look like nice speakers and am sure they rock. I have a sony Sub Woofer (active) for my surround that the driver (voice coil is rubbing and sounds terrible). I looked to replace it too, but is no longer available. I am replacing it with a pioneer driver A301R50-51F. I'm elated he is happy with his new found equipment and that it sounds great. I too like others was just forwarning and was not trying to talk him out of anything, I just don't care to do buisness personally with a company that will not make available parts for repair after 5 years. Imagine if our Carver equipment could not be repaired or modified because parts were not available, there would be less Carver fans on this site I'm sure. Peace bruther...............

I had to pitch a 5,000.00 tv that had a great picture and great sound. The power supply had two bad transistors, 2 bucks a piece and it could not be repaired no parts anywhere to be found, as Sony controled every aspect of that tv circuitry. They made the transistors and resistors and make them so that you cannot use generics. The repairman looked for two months everywhere possible, internet and other vendors. Nadda

I quit being a Sony fan anything sometime back. Although they made and make some decent products the draw back is they will not carry or make replacement parts for long. It is their mindset that they don't not want their equipment being repaired or restored, they want you to buy new replacements; Therefore, I will not buy Sony anything any longer.

Thanks Dan, it will be put to good use. Daughter is getting very excited about the system I'm putting together for her and this will be a very nice piece to clean her records with. Thanks again

Converting FLAC to MP3 is devaluating the music file, it compresses it to the point that you lose some quality, from what I've read. Of course you have no option as some devices only use MP3.

thanks for the input. I look forward to Martin's input. I use a program that came with Soundblaster sound card, (SB Fatality champion). With it is a program called Smart recorder. It works great, you can record (what you hear) whatever is playing on the system whether it be you tube or whatever. It also has a segmenter and a cleaner but it's best not to use them or you could loose some quality. It then goes into Windows media library. The only draw back is it supports only wma and wav files. Of course Windows media only covers WMA as far as I know, they don't use sacd or flac. I suppose it's all about control. For some reason though when you start recording on you tube much of the time you get a little burp and then a silence and then it records whats playing on you tube. Don't know why or how to edit and delete that micro second burp.

Is there software that will allow burning SACD and FLAC files onto a (CD) or a DVD? and what about the burner it'self? Is this a expensive highend market only type of thing? It seems the Hi Rez market isn't all that stable and that blue ray and HD is competing to put FLAC and SACD to rest. Who's up on all this?
-
My true love of SACD lies in the hi-res stereo tracks, 99% of he time. I can count on one hand the number of surround SACDs that I prefer over the 2 channel mix (Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, Toto IV, The Who Tommy, Steely Dan Gaucho) Most SACDs are "hybrid" - meaning they also contain a normal CD version of the album on the disk, which any cd or DVD player will play. But then you're defeating the purpose of buying the SACD, unless you plan to buy a player in the future. So Kevin is correct - to get either te surround OR hi-resolution stereo mixes, your player needs to say "SACD" and have the 6 or 8 channel analog outs. I understand now thanks, I have also seen the with 5.1 channel is that also acceptable?

Thanks for bringing up this post. I don't have an answer for your question but only pose a different question. Will SACD disks play on dcd players? Like denon dcd 1520 or 1560? Thanks for any input.

pics taken before I siliconed. They are strapped down to mounting ties, and then siliconed front and back edges heavely before insertion into the cabinets. Thanks for keeping an eye open. -

Well, finally got the rest of the material to finish up these speakers for my Daughter. Her system is almost complete except for the Mod on the Amp and still waiting to get a BillD mod done on the preamp. Rest is ready. Her system will be composed of Techniqes sl-1300MKII turntable, Carver M1.0T MKII Opt 2 Amp, Carver C-1 (BillD mod) Carver TX-11 Tunner, Denon dcd 1520, and her refurbished Jensens LS-6B's. Here's the pics of the LS-6b completed. The refurbished crossovers before and after instillation, and then all the drivers in the cabinets. It's almost miller time. -
