A long and winding road

You need to get it out of the hands of someone that does not know Caver, before it is toast If it ant already too late -
Well, I don't know if this is the right way or not but I just look at the LP to see if it has any scratch marks on it and I just turn them down unless they are very light, I have LP's that do have some very light scratches but you can not hear them during playback, these I do not worry over but I have two needles an old one that is still good and ALL used vinyl gets played with it first just to check the true condition of the LP If it sounds ok with the old needle then the next time it is played it will be with the new needle, of course they are always cleaned first before even going near the turntable and if I have one that I like but does not pass the listening test because of a scratch or anything else that is audible then I will send it thru a ADC converter and then clean it up with Audacity and then I will have a good file of it on my hard drive then the LP will find it's way to goodwill or the trash

Went to the Vinyl Store today and scored seventeen LP's for less than Fourteen Dollars including taxes I brought this one just for the cover, turned out to be pretty good

This is absolutely right and the main reason some think vinyl has a better sound when the spec's show different, even thou I enjoy vinyl also, I think that a lot of the so called vinyl is "better" talk is caused by the placebo effect of many audio enthusiast actually believing this is true and it is repeated so much on the web and in other circles, but in any case everyone has the right to their own opinion and it really doesn't matter in the long run, as long as you enjoy the music and it brings pleasure to you

Thanks for the clips, now I can go to buying more music Here is a place I buy a lot of tunes from that is very cheap and they also offer flac files "melodishop.com" Sadly they don't offer HD files but for the price you can get at least CD quality
-
How come no one is putting clips on anymore? I used to listen to the clips and then decide if I wanted to buy the music, got a lot of new music this way which I would had never found if it wasn't for the clips

For sound Quality It would be my Dahlquist DQM-7's "looking for a sub to go with these" For being a talking piece and unusual "plus surprisingly good sound" my Pioneer Acrylic Demo HPM speakers But for blowing the roof off the house and surprising sound would be my Cerwin Vega DX-7's These have actually got the cops at my door once All of these being powered by a Adcom GFP-555II and a completely restored Carver M-1.5t
-
I think it sounds pretty good, putting my M-1.5t and Cerwin Vega speakers to the test and they are having no problems, matter of fact I think it wants to be cranked more, I just think the police will show up, oh and you don't have to be young to enjoy, I'm 62

Well, I'm not convinced vinyl is making a comeback, maybe people are buying more of it now than lets say ten years ago but that is a far cry from a comeback and it is far from having the sonic characteristics of a well mastered CD or Digital file It is true I like the "packaging" that LP's come in better but the median "Digital" has far superior sonic details and characteristics, that's my thought on it and I have been around thru the years and have heard vinyl and digital
-
I don't know, my experience is completely different, never had a CD go bad on me, now I have seen some bad CD's but that is because people didn't take care of them same with LP's I never use Media in cars anymore, I just copy music to a USB stick and use it in the car, no problems with CD skip or laying all over the floorboards and sounds great
-
And what is wrong with CV speakers I have a set of CV DX-7's that sound great, run them with a Carver M-1.5t, you just have to run them with enough power, everybody has their own opinion on speakers, I also have a set of glass HPM 100's that I am restoring and a set of Dahlquist DQM-7's Not a doubt that the Dahlquist will be the best sounding set of speakers but the CV are good also, just because some audio ___ on the internet keep bad mouthing them does not prove they are bad You may have heard some bad one's but that can happen with any speaker
-
I use a copy of "Rush Exit Stage Left" Flac file at 96.0 kHz 24-bit

What speakers would best match with a Carver M-500t Amp?
Chuck replied to chiroacademy's topic in Loudspeakers
DAHLQUIST DQM-9 Wait till you hear the sound of these!!! -
You know that's a good idea, I live less than 5 miles from the Mississippi River, thanks I will go talk to a few today

Well, I tried the Novus System, good thing I just brought the sample pack, what a waste of 20 dollars I guess these being built of such a dense material it just looks the same as if I never done anything I knew it was a long shot when I done it, one good thing it did not do any damage I am going to have to remove all the components and take the cabinets to a professional restorer "if I can find one" I sure they will have to be actually sanded down to bring them back to like new condition
-
I was thinking about the Novus System but one of the scratches is pretty deep, you can catch it with your fingernail, thought about going to some of the autobody shop's here and see if anyone knew of someone that had some experience with this type of material All the drivers could just have the dust cap replaced which is what I will do but the woofers seem to have like a fluid leaking from the surrounds, I think they were made with some type of grease compound in them and have started leaking with age, I am going to call simple speakers Monday and talk to them about it, I think they will require a recone even thou they work
-
Just picked these up today, boy are they going to look good when I finish them, they have some light to medium scratches on the top and bottoms, what do you think will be the best way to repair this, even through they play fine some of the dust covers are dented so I will just go ahead and re-cone the drivers that need it and rebuild the crossovers, who are some good tech's I can send the crossovers to that will do a good job on the crossovers?
-
They are HPM 100's I may be able to get them for around $800 haven't made up my mind yet of course I'm going to have to do some re-store work to them They were put out by Pioneer as just display models for audio show rooms but they actually work, never intended to be for sale
