  1. While I love a good quality powerful amp I definitely believe the speakers are far more important. That does not mean they have to cost a small fortune, there have been many good sounding moderately priced speakers. The original Advents are one of many examples. The room and speaker interaction can hardly be separated. They have to compliment each other. But the job of the amp is far simpler than the job of the speaker. The amp just has to increase the signal voltage without distortion or running out of current capability. It does not have to convert one form of energy into another, provide dispersion, blend multiple drivers seamlessly, etc.
  2. I have not listened to Tricycle for years, I'll have to dig it out and give it a new listen I think I have the first Flim & the BB's album too. I'll have to put Jazz at the Pawnshop on my list of things to try to find at a reasonable price.
  3. I think I've got everything Roy ever released. One of the all time great guitar players. He used to do an annual Christmas concert at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh that I went to several times. I think his suicide affected me more than any other artist.
  4. I've got to get that but it will be on CD. Amazon wants $999.99 for new vinyl, $799.98 used!
  5. The vast majority of new releases are majorly compressed in all formats. Still done for radio and streaming where the loudest is still perceived to be the best.
  6. If I recall correctly, the left speaker is the speaker to your left when sitting in the listening position. Now I'm going to have to go home and verify that. My home theater system has an on screen display where you can adjust the level of every speaker one at a time so you can get them matched. A properly designed anti-skate mechanism should pretty well balance the wear on both sides of the grooves.
  7. It may be sacrilege to say this on a Caver site but I have one of the Parasound HCA-2200II that I bought when I got tired of repairing my M1.5t and it has been a great amp. Never a hint of trouble, sounds great. It does put off a fair amount of heat as it runs class A up to about 6 watts output. A very stable amp that can drive low impedance loads with ease.
  8. Circular motion is OK according to Zappa: An' that got me just about as evil as an Eskimo boy can be... So I bent down 'n I reached down 'n I scooped down An' I gathered up a generous mitten full of the deadly... YELLOW SNOW The deadly Yellow Snow from right there where the huskies go (Over by Butzis' room) An' then I proceeded to rub it all into his beady little eyes With a vigorous circular motion Hitherto unknown to the citizens of Canarsie, But destined to take the place of THE MUD SHARK In your mythology THE VIGOROUS CIRCULAR MOTION... Here it goes, RUB IT! (HEY... HEY... HEY...)
  9. Grateful Dead "He's Gone" Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him. Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head. Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone. Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone. Nine mile skid on a ten mile ride, hot as a pistol but cool inside. Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile, Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!! Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone. Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone. Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange, Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain. Lost one round but the price wasn't anything, A knife in the back and more of the same. Same old, rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, You know better but I know him. Like I told you, what I said, Steal your face right off your head. Now he's gone, now he's gone Lord he's gone, he's gone. Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, gone, nothin's gonna bring him back...He's gone. Ooh, nothin's gonna bring him back. "Jack Straw" We can share the women, we can share the wine. We can share what we got of yours 'cause we done shared all of mine. Keep on rollin', just a mile to go; Keep on rollin' my old buddy, you're movin' much too slow. I just jumped the watchman, right outside the fence. Took his rings, four bucks in change, ain't that Heaven sent? Hurts my ears to listen, Shannon, burns my eyes to see; Cut down a man in cold blood, Shannon, might as well been me. We used to play for silver, now we play for life; And one's for sport and one's for blood at the point of a knife. And now the die is shaken, now the die must fall. There ain't a winner in the game, he don't go home with all. Not with all. Leavin' Texas, fourth day of July, Sun so hot, the clouds so low, the eagles filled the sky. Catch the Detroit Lightnin' out of Sante Fe, The Great Northern out of Cheyenne, from sea to shining sea. Gotta go to Tulsa, first train we can ride. Gotta settle one old score, one small point of pride. There ain't a place a man can hide, Shannon will keep him from the sun Ain't a bed can give us rest now, you keep us on the run. Jack Straw from Wichita cut his buddy down, And dug for him a shallow grave and laid his body down. Half a mile from Tucson, by the morning light, One man gone and another to go, my old buddy you're moving much too slow. We can share the women, we can share the wine.
  10. I don't know what it is with Pandora but it does seem to get stuck on certain artists even when you try to lead it elsewhere. I prefer to just use a 128 gig memory stick, MP3's ripped at a decent rate are better than Pandora anyway if not exactly "high fidelity". I rip everything to MP3 because that's the only format my truck will play and it's fine for driving.

One woofer voice coil would rub when you cranked it up more than a couple of watts but otherwise they were in decent shape. Gone in 20 minutes. Still have a pair of old Koss headphones, was one of there best back when they were one of the better headphone makers. I never use them, hate wearing headphones. I think my 350Z and my RAM 1500 eanch have 6 or 7 speakers.
  12. One of the best speakers I ever heard was the Ohm Walsh F. Simply amazing sound. They required vast amounts of power though. I did not hear them on Carver amps but I'm sure an M1.5t would do a good job. One of the best speakers I have owned is the Electro Voice Interface C. These are quite efficient, handle lots of power and image really well. They have taken everything my M1.5t can put out. They also hold up quite well, mine are over 30 years old and still play just fine.
