  1. The NEO8 is by Bohlender Graebner http://www.parts-express.com/bohlender-graebener-neo8-pdr-planar-transducer--264-754 The construction reminds me of a similar planar magnetic driver by VPMS, Brian Cheney (RIP). Paul has a set of VPMS, they sounded great!
  2. The problem with getting kapton for the ALS ribbons is finding a vendor that will make the aluminum foil to the correct thickness and bond it to the kapton film. Getting the foil on the ribbons is where it becomes difficult/expensive.
  3. Have you tried talking to the folks over at http://forums.slimdevices.com/ Logitech stopped supporting the Squeezebox hardware, but there are a great number of people still using the products and several are still developing software for it. Once up/running my Transporter has been trouble free. I have more issues with the Mac that runs the server software than the unit (always asking if I want to "allow" the Transporter to connect).
  4. WHICH Squeezebox @WJStephens ? I'm running the Logitech Transporter, works fine for me. A well known/respected C! member sold me this unit and he was telling me that the standard Squeezebox units are issue prone and are of reduced audio quality. There are quality differences between streaming players!
  5. What other units have you compared the Polk Omni P1 with David?
  6. There are two digital players in my system and one of 3 CD players that do not give me listening fatigue. The other two (Marantz CDR-510 and Marantz PMD-371) are good but you can hear some 'issues'. The Marantz PMD-580 and the Logitech Transporter are excellent for digital sources. The Carver SD/A-490t is magical with the right tubes. Above all of these still sits the Marantz SLT-12 turntable (for me). Yes, the Transporter has more dynamic range, and there are are no 'ticks' on soft passages; but for lifelike sound (in my system and to my ears) the turntable still wins.
  7. Mostly vinyl, some CD'S, some streaming. I don't have a high-res service I've bought a few tracks from iTunes for reference songs. It's supposed to be a lossless format, but still CD quality not high-res. The player is most important when it comes to playback of CD or digital streaming sources.
  8. So instead of Carver Amazings or Martin Logan (?) you bought Mark Levinson (Amp?). I'm confused. How did the Amazings compare to the Marin Logans when you were auditioning them? I'm assuming this was back in the early 80's? When I auditioned Carver AL-III's back in ~'91 I was astonished at the clarity of the cymbals. I now own Amazings wih 60" ribbons.
  9. Remastered version, Youtube deleted the 'original'...
  10. Spikes on hard flooring don't make sense to me. Any room resonance picked up by the floor will get transmitted back to the speaker, and any vibration generated by the speaker will be reflected back. I would put everything on rubber or felt pads.
  11. If they don't have bi-amp inputs then you can't bi-amp the speaker unless you modify the crossover. If that's the case then you'll just have to use a single MK-II amp to do your comparisons. I would use one amp on the Sonus Fabers and one on the Snells to compare.
  12. Can a C-4000 be updated to a C-4000t?
  13. Make sure you don't use a bridged-mono amp, or an inverting amp. On the my Sunfire subs the signal ground of the speaker level input is also an earth ground. The manual says not to; but who reads that first??!!
  14. Also, being a dual-radiator that would be difficult to design for; unless you scrap the existing case. If I recall correctly, these are designed to be in a sealed enclosure; the amp could overheat if there is not enough back-pressure/back EMF.

  16. I'd pick copper, looks more like furniture than speakers
