  1. On my DBX PA2, I set the limiter threshold to protect all my drivers on my Bi amped Silvers....no blown drivers yet, even with the system cranked to the max at times... Nice option to prevent driver damage!
  2. Yea, what Cuda said... Here is how my Silvers and Plats are positioned for the best sound stage. Before I purchased the Plats, the Silvers were in the Plats current position just how they are now with ribbons on the inside. Keep the Silvers at least 3 feet away from the rear walls. You just have to play with the toe in until the sound stage is optimal...took me about an hour to get the best positions....mark the floor with tape as a reference point. I'am also thinking of adding pedestals to all 4 of my Carvers as well due to my hard wood floors...would be an even better sound stage. Still can't get the cue ball to move yet even with the system cranked and both 12" subs on....need more horsepower!
  3. Joe Bonamassa...Just got paid
  4. Ln310, welcome to the group. Looks like you'll fit in quite nicely with all us audiophiles.
  5. Thanks for the pics. Nice system.
  6. metalbent, welcome! I just restored and bi amped my amazing Silvers. Are you planning to refoam the subwoofers, etc? Do you have the amazing version with the 3 adjustment knobs at the rear binding posts or do you just have the pos and neg binding posts and 4 amp fuseholder?
  7. Welcome! Glad to see another Luxman owner. Need pics of your rig.

    vinyl storage

That's a lot of plastic! Nice storage arrangements!
  9. Welcome aboard. I'am sure you will hear from some of the experts on this site to help you with the wiring on those Carver Original Amazings. If it were me, I would purchase the direct replacement Dynavox woofers and have SEA (Ed Atkins) rebuild the ribbons for you if they are buzzing or not working properly. I'am sure you have the two 30" ribbons per speaker, correct? You can cut the two leads on the ribbons and do a continuity test to see if there are any open shorts on the ribbon material. Usually, when the ribbon goes out the woofers will work but emit very low muddled noise and may place your amp in protect mode or blow fuses on your speakers. These speakers were called Amazing for a reason. Altering the stock drivers may not result in the same Amazing clarity of sound as the subs tie in perfectly with the ribbons via the stock crossovers. If you install those 450 watt subs I would bi amp the speakers and eliminate the passive crossover unless you have someone build you a set of passives to match your subs and ribbons together. I removed my stock crossovers and bi amped my Carver Silver Editions, installed 6 Dynavax 12" subs and had SEA rebuild my 48" ribbons....Talk about beautiful sound!!! They sound better now than when I bought them 30 years ago off the show room floor! There are a set of OEM Amazing crossovers on Ebay for sale if you stick with the stock Dynavox subs.
  10. Now those babies are set up properly! Love those guitars hanging on the wall.
  11. Albikes, Welcome! Awesome score on those 😎platinum's! Now we need some pictures when you get a chance!
  12. Thanks again for the replies. I have 27 of these 8mm reels to convert over...that's a lot of film!
  13. Thanks for the replies. I'll check that one link out.
  14. I went up in the attic at my mom's place 2 weeks ago and gathered a ton of equipment. Found three 8 mm bell & howe projectors which all work, slide projectors, three different camcorders from different eras, at least a hundred VHS tapes with movies on starting from 1980. Also, ton of audio gear from the 70s and 80s. Found my mother's wedding on 8mm film from 1955. I purchased a Magnavox VHS to DVD converter and have burned about 25 DVD' so far. I'm also looking at the wolverine 8 mm machine that will convert 8 mm tape to a flash drive. I heard that machine is very slow. Are there any other machines that will convert 8 mm film to DVD like the machine I have for VHS?? I have not found anything yet. My mother will be tickled pink when she sees all these videos especially her wedding.
  15. Cuda, great info...thank you! Still searching for Plat 4's and this will be my new quest! Have a couple great leads, so far. I wonder how my Silvers and future Plats will sound side by side with a 15" sub I'am going to purchase? lol My room is only 13' wide by 20' long.
  16. The Ebay seller just stated these Platinums were purchased new on 3/9/90 if that helps to find which version these are. I just offered him a price so we shall see if I will get these or not. The binding post plates are aluminum if you look closely at the plates...Is this stock or did someone add these plates? I thought the Carvers had black plastic plates. Your correct...not too many Plat 4's around in great condition that I see...far and few! Guess I will just have to be happy with what I can find for a decent price. The freight is the killer... You work truck is more jam packed than mine...check my profile pic of my 2000 7.3 powerstroke van pushing 512 rwhp! I retired it four years ago as the body rotted out and bought a 2002 7.3 in great condition...only pushing 350 rwhp currently...It's nice to drive a hot rod work van! I saved everything off the 2000 van except the windshield wiper motor.
  17. I wish I would have installed a sub on my system! I literally fried the bottom 12" subwoofer (Dynavox) on my Silver Editions 2 hours ago! Smoke was billowing out of the voice coil and filled the room! I have 6 original Carver sub woofers as spares (Installed 6 new Dynavox's on both speakers a month ago) and will solder 1 original woofer that I refoamed and will be back in business. Will be purchasing a nice self powered 1000 watt 12" or 15" subwoofer in the near future. Any idea on the best sounding sub for around $400 - $500.00 that would compliment my Silvers?
  18. Thanks for the replies! I just sent the seller your questions. Following is a link to these Platinums on Ebay. I would offer him less than his asking price due to freight costs and possible damage to the 60" ribbons from freight handling from California to Buffalo, NY.... I'am also looking at a set of Platinum 4's from Canuck Audio Mart for $850.00 but I would have to drive 13hrs round trip to pick them up or pay major freight! Can't cross the border now, anyway! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Pair-of-Carver-Platinum-Edition-Amazing-Loudspeakers/124199840839?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225086%26meid%3D8a77daedb6154656a9d67640a45b6ae9%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D124199840839%26itm%3D124199840839%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2060778%26brand%3DCarver&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507 https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649623493-carver-platinum-mk-iv-speakers/ Damn! Nice find! Are the ribbons and woofers in decent condition or will Ed get more business?
  19. I'm checking out a set of Carver platinum's for sale I need to know which version these are. Serial numbers are R 3752 and L3752. They are bi ampable because the binding post plates have two sets of positives and negative posts as well as fuse holders. I want to purchase the best version of the platinums. So, are these version 1,2 ,3 or 4? Tried searching the web and couldn't find anything. I'm sure someone here knows the answer to this question. I would hopefully be driving them with a PT - 2400 which should be sufficient.
