  1. I think that's enough to make you dread moving.
  2. To answer your question, the dud CD-Rs would occur in either the HHb or the computer.
  3. I burn a lot of CDs and here's what I've found: Sony (NO problems) Memorex (tons of duds, avoid like the plague, the last batch was 60% bad) Memorex Black (a few bad ones in the stack, say 5%) Maxell (usually a few bad ones in the stack, say 8%) Philips (occasionally a few bad ones in the stack, say 3%) When I say bad I mean that they either wouldn't record at all, record all the way through or finalize properly. Anyone else care to add to the list?
  4. I finally got around to my New Year's Resolution: buy fewer CDs and more new vinyl! Two albums a week at a minimum. I just picked up some: Focus Jan Akkerman Joe Cocker and PJ Harvey.
  5. Remastered: Beatles Stones early Blue Oyster Cult Zappa/Mothers of Invention Pink Floyd and Jeff Beck sound really good to name a few. Something's Off: Doors boxed set Cream boxed set Really Horrible: Black Crowes Red Hot Chili Peppers
  6. Frank Zappa - Apostrophe
  7. Like the Zappa choices - almost went with Brown Shoes Don't Make It.
  8. Life Is A Ministrone by 10cc from the Original Soundtrack album. Kind of silly but why not. I'm dancing on the White House lawn Sipping tea by the Taj Mahal at dawn Hanging round the gardens of Babylon Minnie Mouse has got it all sewn up She gets more fan mail than the Pope She takes the mickey out of all my phobias Like signing cheques to ward off double pneumonia Life is a minestrone Served up with parmesan cheese Death is a cold Lasagne Suspended in deep freeze I'm leaning on the Tower of Pisa Had an eyeful of the tower in France I'm hanging round the gardens of Madison And the seat of learning And the flush of success Relieves a constipated mind I'm like a gourmet in a skid row diner A fitting menu for a dilettante Life is a minestrone Served up with parmesan cheese Death is a cold Lasagne Suspended in deep freeze Love is a fire of flaming brandy Upon a crepe suzette Let's get this romance cooking, honey But let us not forget Life is a minestrone Served up with parmesan cheese Death is a cold Lasagne Suspended in deep freeze

    Snow Crash

One of my favorites. Another really good one by him is Cryptonomicon (I believe that's how it's spelled).
  10. The cure is to turn it off when the tuner is on?
  11. Static goes away when you unplug the l/h interconnect.
  12. When I turn the sub on, it introduces a lot of static into the FM. The sub is in a corner and the coax cable runs pretty close to it. Could that be the culprit? Different interconnects didn't make a difference. Sub doesn't affect anything else, by the way.
  13. We had an AKG Bischon which was great until a second Bischon showed up and then it was doggie diaper time. This third Bischon is just an inbred bonehead - can't win them all, I guess.
  14. Thank you, gentlemen. Must be doggie wee wee from that stupid Bichon. Don't miss him too much!
  15. What the heck are these round jobbers on the far right? One of my Maggies has a yellow stain on the back which looks to be too bright for dog piss (good riddence, you little rat)! Is there anything in there that could spew out mung? These aren't my speakers but same model.
  16. Generally speaking, it's the audiophiles who are bipolar.
  17. Unemployment Dept, maybe 100 people, open cubicles that you can look over. Lots of people on the phone plus idiots who can't stop having conversations across the "hallways".
  18. The Grados showed up last night and for a $79 headphone, they sound great. Kind of a 3/4 size AKG 701, recommended.
  19. Bill, You talked me into going with the Grados after all. Got enough problems without sweaty ears. www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/grado/grado-sr-60i.php
  20. To drown out my bizarro coworkers, I just took the plunge and ordered a Beyerdynamic DT 235. http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/beyerdynamic/beyerdynamic-dt-235-black.php I was kind of leaning towards the Grado in this price range but like the Beyerdynamic DT880s so much that I decided to stick with the brand. If you like headphones, this is a neat vendor - lots of good stuff. Shame they don't carry Stax but guess you can't have everything.
  21. Some of my coworkers are a little on the hefty side, yes... Seriously, are there any CD players with a really good headphone section? My old Carver CD players weren't up to the task and the Jolida is nothing to write home about in that regard.
  22. To drown out my coworkers, I'm looking for a CD player with a decent headphone section. Is there any such animal or should I just go with a cheapie from Wally World and go that route?
  23. Sorry, I wasn't born yet...--
  24. http://www.soundfountain.com/amb/rc1.html#LIQUID I just use the concentrated stuff from VPI, though. StereoDog, I believe, recommended something that's supposed to be much better but I needed to place an order for VPI parts so had them throw in some of their cleaner.
  25. Harryfan, Before and After Science Another Green World Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) No Pussyfooting (with Robert Fripp)
