  1. I'll wake her up and ask her if she minds if I go about my normal routine.
  2. I usually listen to the Stax Sigmas when I'm on the computer (like right now). Lynda's home and she has a guest staying with us this weekend so I try to be considerate. When I have the house to myself I fire up the 20.7s!
  3. I just had a thought - if you go the Stax/Wee route, a vintage tube receiver would be the ticket to drive it. Maybe Kevin has some? Another thought is this guy: http://app.audiogon.com/listings/amplifiers-stax-srm-t1-and-sigma-earspeakers-______tube-headphone-amp-and-electrostatic-earspeakers-2013-01-14-headphones-60302-oak-park-il These are the weirdest looking things going (two boxes on your head) but I've had mine since the early 1980s and will have them until I croak.
  4. Here you go: You already have a good headphone amp which will allow you to pick out which is your favorite set of cans. Pick your favorite pair, keep them and keep the Grados for your PC, sell the rest. Then go off in a different direction and get this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAX-SR-407-CLASSIC-Electrostatic-Earspeakers-/321057161907?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item4ac07f82b3 and this http://wooaudio.com/products/wee.html and you'll be done thinking about buying headphones. This will give you two totally different presentations to the music, both of which will rival speakers in the 5-10 thousand dollar range. Note: the Woo Wee is only the adaptor unit for the electrostatic headphones, you will need to hook it up to an integrated amp, receiver or amp/preamp. Whatever sound quality you put into it is what you'll get out. If your amp/preamp bites so will the sound. Stax earspeakers are very revealing so consider yourself forwarned!
  5. I see an Albert Collins CD - that Master of the Telecaster. I always think of this when I see Albert Collins tunes: Albert lived behind this one guy who had a motorhome which needed work so it was just parked. Albert had the same model which also needed work and he used to bug the shit out of the neighbor about stripping parts off of it so Albert could fix his. The neighbor came to dread seeing Mr. Collins...
  6. That's really nice of him. Many, many years ago I sold my stereo and all of my albums to one of my buddies, Mark Haggerty. He went to sea as an officer in the merchant marines and asked me to take care of the albums as he was afraid his younger brother would destroy them. I still have the Sea Hag's albums and the last I heard he married a woman in Japan.
  7. Consider yourself bashed.
  8. A new contender?
  9. You're welcome. Use the little Grado for a laptop or iPod or whatever, they're real easy to drive and will sound good.
  10. Shit, cancel the 32 Ohm and get the 600 Ohm 880s.
  11. Clickee clickee nothing? Clickee clickee here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0399159460#reader_0399159460
  12. Headphones are fun. I've got the Grado 60i, Beyerdynamic DT880 and Stax Sigma Pro. The Grados are cheap, light and work great on the laptop, the DT880s work well with the WooAudio 6 and the Sigmas are hooked up to an NAD integrated that KVE777 gave me. I've never had Sennheisers so I think I'd like to give them a shot and see.
  13. A useful review if you're in the market for some new cans. I've heard a few of the ones that are under discussion and he's pretty much in line with my thoughts. http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-50-headphones-compared
  14. I always wanted a low wattage SET system with some horns for a change of pace. Hmmm...
  15. You can beat a man to death but you can't make him come. A room mate said that one years ago and it still makes me laugh.
  16. Previous post edited due to political content.

  18. Yes, welcome.
  19. For a moment I thought that the Ford Porn might involve me.
  20. Well, it's about time you joined. We've been keeping the lights on for you.
  21. Aren't computers splended devices? As I spent 6 hours with MicroSoft remote services having them try and fix my computer I asked the tech about viruses. He said that their objective is to steal your credit card information and then they destroy your computer for good measure. I dumped that AVG anti virus stuff and went with Microsoft's Security Essentials after a good going over with the free download from malwarebyes. Good luck to your, RobertR, I feel your agita!
  22. That's a new one on me - good find, though!
  23. That sounds like they were thinking about going into DJ gear, doesn't it?
  24. PSBs sound good and don't cost all that much. You'll need a sub, of course.
  25. I didn't know about the soldering bit for the earlier ribbons. My 3.6s had male spades on the end of the ribbon and they're the only ones that I've had to replace. It was $200 (I think) for a ribbon swap and you don't have to pull the socks for the later ones which is a good thing.
