  1. Balok, Just HOW do you know that's a double album?

    Vinyl Facts

The World's Largest Record can be seen here: http://www.today.com/travel/photo-op-worlds-largest-vinyl-record-visible-air-2D11936134 I can't stand Hotel California - go figure.
  3. I'd add Roxy and Elsewhere by Zappa/Mothers. Not that it matters but as to agree, I'd go with: 08. Allman Bros - Live at the Fillmore East 07. The Who - Quadrophenia 01. The Beatles (White Album) The rest of them don't really interest me very much. I can't believe they left out Tommy and Layla but what do I know?
  4. This whole thing seems like much more trouble than it's worth. My RCM takes around a minute and a half from start to finish.
  5. I would think so although 8, 9 and 10 wouldn't apply. That disc did show up just how bad my hearing has become over the years and at some really odd frequencies, too - lows as well as highs. Curse that Craftsman air compressor, it really did a number on me one fateful day.

    Vinyl Facts

Dual is still in business? They vanished here from the US decades ago as far as I know.
  7. That's what happens when the supply runs out. I think my copy of Hot Rats was $30 last Summer. Check Amazon once a month to see what's new or else the sharks will eat you up.
  8. Gail Zappa is releasing Frank's catalog at the rate of two 180 gram titles at the rate of two per month. These are outstanding. If you like Zappa, buy these before the prices goes through the roof. Hot Rats came first (and was 200 gram), so far it's been Freak Out!, Over-Nite Sensation, Roxy and Elsewhere and Uncle Meat.
  9. Happy Trails, Same principle but I think it's a much more gradual process - ovens ramp up to temperature so quick. I'm not sure how hot that Groovy Pocket thing gets but people who have used them say it's a 24 hour process, sometime 48 hrs for the heavier albums. Just using a weight like I do takes quite a bit longer than that but it's not like I need to listen to Beck-Ola right this minute or else my life is ruined.
  10. The one I was referring to is this one for $80 and then you have to buy their Groovy Pouch, plug it in and off you go. http://www.vinylflat.com/ it's supposed to work well but I just wait it out with the weighted glass.
  11. Don't do that thing. You can either buy an electric doohickey for heating the vinyl or just do what I do: get two sheets of tempered glass glue them to some heavy plywood insert album in between the two glass sheets stick a gallon jug of water on top of the whole shebang and check it in a few months. The weight will flatten it back out. The heat in the oven trick will deform the grooves and it will go Weep WOW when you play it.
  12. Sheik Yerbouti - good choice! I just ordered some of the remastered 180gm Zappas - Freak Out! and Over Nite Sensation. I'm glad to see Gail Zappa is slowly but surely doing the catalog.
  13. They've gotten good reviews. I'm looking forward to seeing how PDR's DIY build goes.
  14. Good deal on the Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart. I've had that Yardbirds album for around 25 years or so and I've listened to it twice. I was so excited to get it, too! I put it on and went, HUH?
  15. That Yardbirds sucks, the Pink Floyd is REALLY good. How's that for a concise record review?

    Cleaning Vinyl

How loud is the vacuum motor on it? The one on the VPI is idiotically noisy.

I'd want pictures of the underside of that VPI. Remember what I said about the fluid causing the thing to rot apart.

    Cleaning Vinyl

I use a VPI 17 which I picked up for around $300 a few years back. If you get a VPI do yourself a favor and seal the area around the liquid holding tanks as they just use bare particle board and it'll rot away into garbage.
  19. First album bought for me: Sgt Pepper First album I bought myself: Through the Past, Darkly - Rolling Stones
  20. This afternoon I got my motor running, headed out to the highway looking for adventure with whatever came my way and ended up singing Riders On The Storm as I got drenched in the afternoon deluge. I do like Michilin motorcycle tires!!!
  21. Yeah, that room looks great. I'd keep the fireplace, though.
  22. I'm getting more absent minded as I age but still have a pretty good remembery if I recall correctly. It does take longer to do anything, though, as I'll be on my way to go somewhere and realize that I forgot something, go back inside to get it, go do something else, get back outside and then remember that I forgot to do the thing I went inside to do in the first place. Being institutionalized may turn out to be a blessing as long as they don't forget about me.
