  1. Get thee to a Magnepan dealer.
  2. Not that I can afford it but it's nice to see Bob doing what I'm sure he wanted to do throughout his entire professional career.
  3. Peck555, If I had to choose between the two it would be the Beyers hands down - the AKGs sound is more recessed with a lot less bass but they're more comfortable on my fat head. The Beyers feel like the ear muffs my mom made me wear as a kid. If you're just plugging it into a CD player or preamp the differences won't be as pronounced as if you were using a good headphone amp. I use the Beyers with a Woo, the AKGs with a Jolida, the Grados are plugged into the PC. The Grados are surprisingly good for $80 new or thereabouts. If I only had to choose one headphone it would be the Stax, if I went for another set of conventional headphones it would be one of the upscale Grados. Hope this helps.
  4. And I thought I was nuts. 1 pr Magnepan MMGs 1 pr Magnepan 1.7s 1 pr Magnepan 3.7s 1 pr JBL 4 way something or other, circa 1980, in storage 1 - NHT "subwoofer" 1 - SVS subwoofer I'll throw in headphones as they kinda count: 1 pr Stax Sigmas 1 pr AKG 701s 1 pr Beyerdynamic DT880s 1 pr Grado S-60i
  5. What a great job, getting paid to blow stuff up. The most fun I have at work is giving people who commit fraud penalty weeks, talk about lame. I used to get paid to wind motorcycles out in top gear, now I mail out determinations. Maybe I should tweet myself. An explosives engineer, that's more like it. Back to music, Gail stuck my question about the albums on the Zappa site: http://www.zappa.com/gzsez/questions/re-vinyl-releases/ She's still a pretty woman and the entire Zappa family just came across as really nice people.
  6. All of Zappa's official CDs are very well done. Some time back I mentioned that I wrote to Gail Zappa and they will be coming out with vinyl releases again which I'm really looking forward to. They must have had to wait for an agreement with Ryko to expire or something like that.
  7. After 20 some years I finally found an illustration of why I've always thought digital sounded strange but I could never describe it correctly:

    Zappa on vinyl

I wrote to Gail Zappa (Frank's widow) and got some good news: they are planning on coming out with Frank's stuff on vinyl again. If you're interested, getting on the Zappa.com mailing list would be the best way to find out when the albums become available. The 200gm Hot Rats was really good so I'm excited about this one.

  10. That's enough to make you start drinking right there!
  11. Thanks for posting this one. It's "Mack the Knife" for me.
  12. Kevin, If you ever make it out this way you'll have to check out this place http://tomsmusictrade.com/Toms_Music_Trade/Toms_Music_Trade_Dot_Com.html as he had a whole bunch of quad albums there. He has more crap than you can imagine with only what he can cram into his store on display.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Tubes and Maggies are a good combination! I don't have a tube buffer to try with BillD's modified C1 but I think that it would benefit from one despite the source and amps being tube gear. Maybe a little bit down the road, there's always something to scheme about getting.
  14. I listen to FM a lot so stumble across new artists every once in a while. If I like an artist I'll do a search online for them and then end up with most, if not all, of their releases. I get new releases from Amazon on vinyl (if possible) and there's a used record and cd store up the road which usually has some good stuff. It's always a gamble with buying a used record as they can be perfect or rice krispies.
  15. Use them on the woofer.
  16. The fellows over at the tube circle asked about your show attendance so I will pass it along. Hope the new biz goes well for all concerned.
  17. Best of luck with your new company. I would like to see a preamp, please.
  18. I just don't care for The Doobie Brothers, that's all. They'd come on the radio, I'd change the station. It's just one of those things.
  19. No, I took it back to Sam Goody's back when I was in Jr High School and exchanged it for something else. Probably a Beatles album or something like that. Side 2 of the Plastic Ono Band's Live Peace in Toronto is especially putrid. Yoko Ono's Ben Wa balls develop a short circuit which causes a 29 minute screech-a-thon.
  20. I remember really hating The Doobie Brother's release What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. Good title, though.
  21. I use one and it seems to keep the vinyl from being such a dust magnet.
  22. This is really interesting but part 2 is full of really bad puns which will make you groan.
  23. Interesting article on the licorice pizzas. http://www.micrographia.com/projec/projapps/viny/viny0100.htm
  24. Holy Geek Overload, Batman!!!
  25. Afterwords I had to go for a blast on a motorcycle but even so, I am developing a thing for vintage slide rules and horn rimmed glasses...
