  1. +1 My life wouldn't the same if I couldn't listen to my vinyl. It's one of my most enjoyable things to do. Put on my favorite album, melt into my leather chair and enjoy great music. If it wasn't for vinyl I would have OCCD. Vinyl is all I have listened to in the last 4 years, other then the local FM station. I can't remember the last time I bought a CD. I did listen to a CD a few days ago, just wanted to make sure my CDP still worked,
  2. On vinyl, and
  3. I only have 4 pair I have a pair of Advance A+'s, a pair of Polk Audio 5b's, a pair of EPI 200b's with a pair of Hiel tweeters (glue let go on one of the original EPI tweeters) and my latest acquisition a pair of Technics SB-7000a's.The Advance speakers I purchased new in 1982, I've refoamed the surrounds and upgraded the cross overs, just sitting in their original boxes, I have cats so it is the safest place for them at the moment. The Polks I purchased new in 1987, these have the upgraded tweeters and upgraded the cross overs with Clarity Caps and Mundorff resistors. The EPI's were a garage sale find from a couple of years ago, had the magnet glue let go on one of the original tweeters. Thanks to Rod ( Doh-R) he pointed me to a fellow on Canuck Audio Mart that had a pair of Hiel Tweeters. They pretty much fit right in with just a little sanding and opening up the hole for square magnets. The last pair are my favorites, the Technics have a huge sound stage most of the time I don't have SH engaged on the C-1.
  4. I have been giving these a good listen here in the last while. Also been leaning on the volume control pretty hard and the tweeter fix seems to be holding up. I can't believe how these speakers image. Most of the time I don't even have the SH turned on. If you guys ever get a chance to listen to a pair, don't pass that chance up, you'll be surprised the sound quality from a pair of late 70's speakers. I would like to have a listen the the SB-10000.
  5. Well my buddy came up with so numbers and now I own a new to me Mitsubishi LT-30 and a [air of Technics SB-7000A speakers. I now have about 25 hours on that new Grado cartridge. The sound stage is starting to open up, lots of nice tight bass, the high end is lacking a little but I sure that will improve once I get more hours on the cartridge.
  6. Are you talking about the SB-10000? I would love to hear a pair of them.
  7. That was one of the first things I did after cleaning them up. I had a real close look at the spiders and I didn't see anything out of the unusual. My tweeter fix is holding out real well, spent a few days leaning hard on the volume control and every thing is working great. Turntable has a few minor adjustments to do but nothing that is really pressing right now.
  8. Well I now own these speakers and this turntable now. I have installed a Grado green cartridge, so I will spend some time breaking in the cartridge in the next week or so and let you guys know what I think of this cartridge.
  9. You guys got any tips on cleaning these grill clothe? These speakers spent most of their lives in a smoking environment. I tried Automotive Upholstery and Carpet cleaner, it seams to loosen the tar and nicotine. Spent a few hours today leaning on the volume control making sure the tweeters don't fail and so far so good. These things sound pretty sweet for a late 70's Japanese speaker. I am going to make my buddy an offer.
  10. Looking awesome Perry. I might have to build one, I might have found a treasure trove of LP's, some are pretty dirty.
  11. SB7000a's have sold on ebay recently for $125 (poor), $250 (OK), $395 (matched, very good) and $495 (matched, minty). LT-30's have sold for $199 (cosmetic damage to plinth), $429 (7.5/10, scratched dust cover) and $431.99 (VG, scratched dust cover) .Thanks for the info Dom. I might be the new owner to both the speakers and the turntable. He also has a Technics SA-5760 Receiver that I am trying to get going too.
  12. I think they are the LS-8 they look like these http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649030668-ess_heil_air_motion_transformer_tweeters_pair/images/509548/
  13. Here is another pic with the grills on. So my buddy wants to sell these, now the question what are they worth? They did clean up pretty good. He also has a Mitsubishi LT-30 linear tracking turn table. I replaced belts in it and have a new Grado Prestige series cartridge coming for it, also the question of what it's worth. We have been runnning it for over a week now and all functions as it should.
  14. Those are a pair of EPI 200b/ They have new binding posts along with new tweeters now, the originals had the glue that holds the magnet let go, destroyed the voice coil. I have a pair of Hiel's that Doh-R turned me on too. They sound great with my tube amp, still lack a little bass though.
  15. Yes there was it was disappearing as you touched it. I am amazed that the woofer and mid surrounds are still in great shape.
  16. Hey guys check these out. I got these going for a buddy of mine, they are a pair of Technics SB-7000a. I had to repair both tweeters, voice coil wire was broken from flex wire going to the terminals. I also gave them a good cleaning, they came from a smoking environment all the parts that are silver now used to be brown. I have been listening to these for a couple of hours now, really nice deep tight bass and crisp clean highs with a well rounded mid range. I might have to try them out with my tube amp. Here are a few pictures.
  17. Not sure if I want to see what is going come in 30 years.

    Vinyl record cleaner

I too have a Spin Clean works well for not a lot of money and does a pretty good job.
  19. So GOC did you get them? I see that they are sold.
  20. I think Chrysler Corp put torsion bar suspension on their cars in the mid 50's til late 50's -- no spring, but pretty impressively level and smooth. (So did Packard! Huge convertible boat I remember in 1955-56.) According to this http://www.allpar.com/mopar/torsionaire.html Chrysler used torsion bar suspension from 1957 to 1992.
  21. Thanks for posting the video for me Dom. All I could post was the link, I quess I have more reading in the how to section lol.
  22. OK I finally got this video together, let me know if you have any questions. Hope this works out. My son did the video for me, it was easier for him to do it then try to explain it to the old man.
  23. I will be a few days, my video expert, my son has a really bad cold, I'll give him a day or two to recover. He is way handier at manipulating video files then I am. I can play them and that's about it. I would rather use a computer to make parts as in CNC. RodH knows what I'm talking about.
