  1. Some sunfire amplifiers are equipped with a switch on the BOTTOM of the amp, directly under the meter. I switches between extremely dim and ridiculously dim. It's hard to get to and you may need a screw driver to move it. Your amp may not have this switch. You are lucky the lamp still comes on. Most of them have burned out by now.
  2. I sent an email to Sunfire back when they were answering email. Here's the reset procedure for the TGx-401. Let us know if this clears up your problem. Factory reset - TGx-401 Setup>Enter Control>Enter Setting Save>Enter Reset Factory>Enter RFAC (Enter after each one). Dial up on left hand knob. Since the Sunfire TGx-401 passwords are not published anywhere… Turn knob to put in each letter: Save Dealer – SDLR Recall Dealer – RDLR Recall Factory - RFAC
  3. The infrasonic filter is designed to be used when playing vinyl. Some, if not all turntables will generate an extremely low frequency rumble. The infrasonic filter will removed that rumble. If your infrasonic filter is generating distortion, there is something wrong. It could be a dirty switch or something else. All C-1s are getting old. Switches and POTs get dirty over time. Electrolytic capacitors degrade. You should consider a refresh where all electrolytic caps get replaced and everything gets cleaned. If the problems with the infrasonic filter persist, a good tech can diagnose them following the refresh. Until then, just leave the filter OFF. It's really only useful with turntables that have large amounts of rumble.
  4. @Nahash5150 can be reached at https://nelionaudio.com He does excellent work.
  5. Check out my thread about rebuilding a pair of Amazing Silvers.
  6. Neilon does do BillD upgrades and likely for considerably less than $1K. You can contact them at https://nelionaudio.com or send greg a message directly using this site messaging capability using his screen name here @Nahash5150. Here is a full description of the options and prices for the C-1 Peamp. https://nelionaudio.com/index.php?/services.html/carver/carverpreamps/carver-c-1c-11-restore-and-bill-d-upgrades-r5/
  7. Hard to say how it would compare. The BillD mods are well published. Roland seldom shares the details of his upgrades.
  8. If you have some headphones, plug them in and see if you get any output from them. It would also be a good idea to carefully look at all the switches again. Sometimes they can bind against the faceplate, look like they are more or less in the out position actually be depressed enough to cause trouble. Oh.. and get a new tech. One that will take responsibility for their work.
  9. Good grief. Absolutely stunning achievement. Congratulations.
  10. Welcome to the site. We have a ton of information on the TFM-15. You can start with checking out the owners manual and service manual. You can find these at the top of the page under Manuals and Specsheets. That will take you a page that by default shows you the Carver manuals. Scroll down the page (way down) and you'll find the TMF-15 docs. You can also access Phase Linear, Sunfire, Lightstar and Bob Carver Corp docs using the tabs at the bottom of the page. You can find even more info if you scroll down the home page (again, way down) to find a forum dedicated to amplifiers. Within that forum you will find two subforms. One called Carver and one called amp repair. Both have dedicated sections for the TFM-15. You will also find a forum dedicated to preamps. Look under the mods and you will find info on the BillD modifications. And don't forget the search functions. Upper right side of the home page. You can often find just what you need if you are good a formulating search terms. Good luck and feel free to post questions in the relevant forums.

  12. @Chris Trimble - Welcome to the site. Very bad idea to put your phone number in a post. I've edited it out to protect your privacy. Folks can reply to your post for repair recommendations..
  13. Welcome to the site. I'm not familiar with the Genesis G200 or its relationship to Carver ribbons. But, Ed Atkins is the guy that repairs Carver ribbon drivers. He's a member here. User name is @sea.
  14. Wow. If you have got +/- 99volts where +/- 69 volts are supposed to be, do NOT turn it on again. Other rail voltages in the amp will be high. The probability of venting one of the big power supply caps is very high. The Tirac is behaving as if it is shorted. You said you replaced it. Double check that it's wired correctly. Troubleshooting will required a Variac. With a Variac, you can vary the AC line voltage down to something that yields WAY lower than +/- 99 volts. From there you may be able to diagnose the problem. If you don't have a Variac consider sending it to a professional. Further testing with voltages that high will not end well.
  15. if the relays are not engaging, your amp is likely in protection. Something has gone wrong. Suggest you start with downloading the service manual. Check the output transistors for shorts. Also check for DC offset at the outputs (up stream from the relays). This may help narrow down why its going into protection.
